Hi all im new to this all but obviously I need some help because my internet runs slower than it should be. I would like some help with cablenut also because I saw the note 'ASK WHEN YOU'RE NOT SURE ABOUT IT' so that's the problem I don't have a clue what to do now..

I did what was said in this thread: Test: http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=2097.0

1. windows XP HOME sp2

2 planet internet ,

3. i installed cable nut but i dont have a clue how to use it!?!

Test:

TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500

MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460

Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535

RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits

Unscaled Receive Window = 65535

Note: TCP 1323 Options need to be enabled for RWIN over 2^16 (65535). Windows 9x might also need the MS Vtcp386 fix.

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.

Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)

256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)

128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2621.4 Kbps (327.675 KBytes/s) @ 200ms

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1048.56 Kbps (131.07 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 119 hops

TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

4.

downstream  1500 Kbit/s

upstream   256 Kbit/s

I figured a bit out how to use cable nut and used 'vanburen's cablenut setting7' ---> cable/dsl/fiber/dial-up ---> winXP cable/dsl ---> msss 1440 ---> 1500/256

than i rebooted and did the test:

Try using this ccs file.

Your latency test values from your ISP in Holland to USA are very high. This means you will have a large lag time to download websites from USA and probably with excessive packet losses too.

You need to find out from your ISP why latency is so high. Check with your friends who have the same ISP if they face the same problem. If they do not, then you may have hardware or line quality problems.

ok I did that and ran the tests again, however i didn't notice many difference. Any other settings I can use?

Ok but I don't have any idea what to ask to the helpdesk concerning my problem. Do I just have to ask them, "why does my i-net runs slower than it Should be?" or something like that?

tell them the latency between you and your 1st HOP is very long

it should be under 100ms (mili seconds) and you are on the thousands in the 1st hop

talk to them about latency

that is like when u type a website it takes long time for it to start loading
