What's with my router?

I have linksys four port router, and I've noticed that whenever I do a tracert, I get disconnected from the network. What's with that? Also, when trying to use some applications, such as skype, I get disconnected as well. I know for a fact it's the router, because I've tested both a tracert and skype without the router, and everything worked flawlessly.

What can I do to resolve this problem? Do you guys know of anything I can do inside my router config to stop this from happening?

I have an older DLink 614+ and two other MUCH more modern routers that all offer way to "allow" tracert, ping and other Command Line 'thingies' to function. My guess is that yours is either disabled (turned off), or needs to be configured.

Climb into your router (usually done via your browser by entering in 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.2.1 ...and just have a look-see around. Or call the Tech Support for that Router and they'll be happy to assist you.

You have a "tech specific" question, I don't know your level of expertise, so forgive me for this very "basic" reply.

IF you are connecting through DSL using PPPoE, login to the router :

(http://192.168.1.1 -----Leave the "User Name" field blank and type "admin" as "Password" then click "OK")

& check these settings:

1- Check off "Enable" beside the "PPPoE" header.

2- Enter your "User Name" (for your user name make sure you include your ISP's domain as part of it. I.E.: for Verizon it would be userid_at_verizon.net) and "Password" as supplied by your ISP.

2- Check off "Enable" under "Connect on Demand", then click on "Apply".

3- Reboot & crack open a tall cool one.

If you're not using DSL, ignore all except #3.
