Charter cable internet really slow, comments please

i have charter cable internet and it is supposed to be 3mb/s download but heres my results.

Download Speed is:: 43 kB/s

i am running a xeon processor 3.8 GHz , 1.5gig ram , radeon 9800 pro VC.

i tried moving the router and the modem apart but that only slightly improved the situation.

MTU = 1500

MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460

Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535

RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits

Unscaled Receive Window = 65535

Note: TCP 1323 Options need to be enabled for RWIN over 2^16 (65535). Windows 9x might also need the MS Vtcp386 fix.

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.

Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)

256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)

128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

Try this ccs file.

The test report shows 2 possible causes for your slow download speed:

Are you using a proxy server?

no i am not using a proxy server, i am using 2 routers

heres the results with that ccs file

I tried disconnecting both routers and here's what i got

so i guess that it isnt the routers fault.

I know this is an old thread, but if you've come across this page while searching for a solution to your slow internet connection speed from charter, read below.

I'm not 100% sure this is your problem, but this may help explain a little about what is happening to you. I'm currently having this problem myself, and charter's internet service will go down because of this. You may experience download speeds from IE or Firefox of around 1-7kb/s because of this. Like I said this is only what I've come across so far, and the symptoms seem to be in charter's services and not your or my router/modem. I am currently hooked directly up to my modem. I've reset it multiple times and got the same results. Check this link out, it may help.
