hi all i just ran a test on www.testmy.net and it cam up like this:

Connection is:: 482 Kbps about 0.5 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

Download Speed is:: 59 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server1)

Test Time:: Sun Feb 5 12:36:53 UTC 2006

Bottom Line:: 9X faster than 56K 1MB download in 17.36 sec

Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 38.62 % of your hosts average (ntli.net)

Your connection shows a high latency of over 500 ms. Usual latency to the US is less than 300 ms. The causes for the slow speed could either be bad telephone line or electromagnetic interference (EMI) that is affecting your cable connection.
