need help, Comcast conection stalling during download test.

Please have a look and see if you can tell me what might be going on.

I get some better test, but not very often and never close to my cap.

Windows Xp, SP2 installed with patch

Cablenut installed with Van Buren file version 8,  Cable & DSL 10000.ccs

Instaled thes tweaks

Faster page loading

Disable DNS Caching

Increase Buffer

All registry tweaks by Rom Dos for XP

Mcafee Firewall and anti virus turned off.

Ran Spybot and Adware regularly.

Used Ccleaner

Connected through NIC.

Set it to 100mb full duplex for Cable

Updated NIC driver to latest driver.

Uninastalled Lan protocols not used.

Made sure nothing is checked (LAN settings button)

Cleared cookies, temp. files and caches.

Power cycled modem.

New motorolaSB5100 modem.

No router installed during test.

Comcast 8800/1000

Test with Anti virus off.

Always stalls at about 30% & 60% loaded.

Hi, I had the same problem, I installed slower Cablenut settings because it was trying to get too much from my internet connection. After I uninstalled the old settings and installed the new ones, it worked wayyy better...

Try that and tell me if it works.

This file (OOL 10000 1000.ccs from the cablenut files - MSS1460 XP cable files )seems to work the best as far as posting the highest speeds and not having the stalling when testing.

Still not close to the cap though.

This is the cause of your 'request times out' in the 1st hop?

Yes i have set my Nic to auto and that is where i have it at present.

I also tried manualy switcing it to Full made no diffrence and i tried manualy switching it to Half duplex no diffrence.

Test speed results also depend on internet traffic conditions. Usually, I will test my comp's optimum performance at 5-6 am period. But this auto setting is the correct one.But as said in the link on cable modem, some auto setting may not function well, and a force half-duplex setting in both NIC and modem may be needed.

How do you force the half duplex setting in the modem.

I found where it shows that it is 100 full duplex but not how to change it.

I personally have not done any of these adjustments as mentioned in the link as I am connected directly through a USB modem.

The section that mentioned force setting is here:

"ntl:home 100/120 (Ambit) duplex setting

The ntl:home 100/120 (Ambit) cable modem duplex setting can be configured by the user, by using the web pages at http://192.168.100.1/, user root password root. By default, the cable modem is configured to auto-negotiate its speed and duplex setting to be the same as your ethernet card. If you manually configure an explicit speed and duplex setting in your ethernet card, you should also configure the same one in the cable modem, thus removing auto-negotiation from both ends of the link. The optimal setting is to manually force both the ethernet card and the cable modem to full-duplex, thus avoiding all ethernet collisions, and avoiding any possibility of an auto-negotiation mistake. "

Yes I agree that the time of day and the amount of traffic can make a diffrence.

I see though where others on Comcast with the same download tier are getting speeds right up to there caps and some over during the peak internet times of the day.

I am just trying to maximize my conection and cant understand why I cant even get close.

The timing out on the first hop concerns me and the mismatch condition was concerning me. (dont no if this is an actual problem at this point though.)

I read that also but it is for an ambit modem and I cant find how to do it with the mototrola SB5100
