Have Satellite and slow upload speed...

angela641

Recommended Posts

I am currently running Windows XP, and DirecWay Satellite Internet Connection.  I upgraded my DirecWay account to professional to try and get faster upload speeds.  They say I should get 200/kpbs upload speeds but I only get 16-33!! Not even close.  I use Vonage telephone service cannot use my phone because the upload speed needs to at least be at least 90 and it is not even close.  What can i do to help get my upload speed up there??? I called DirecWay and they say they cant do anything, even though I upgraded my service and am paying more now for faster speeds I am not getting. :( Help. Please

Sorry forgot to paste this:

TCP properties for IP = ()

Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)

Notes: Read the Analyzer FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

TCP options string = 0204058c

MTU = 1460

MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

MSS = 1420

Maximum useful data in each packet = 1420, which equals MSS.

Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 16000

RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits

Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 16000

RWIN seems to be set to a very small number. If you're on a broadband connection, consider using a larger value.

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.

Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

522560 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 8)

261280 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)

130640 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)

65320 (MSS x 46)

bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your TCP Window limits you to: 640 kbps (80 KBytes/s) @ 200ms

Your TCP Window limits you to: 256 kbps (32 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 246 hops

TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = OFF

IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

Report them to the Better Business Bureau for FAlSE adverstising. Make sure you provide all the ads and send Direcway a copy

You have a bad signal on your second hop:

2    *        *        *    Request timed out.

Check the cable connections to your modem and also if your modem is working correctly.

In addition, make sure it is not affected by electromagnetic interference (EMI). Possible source of EMI includes router, sound speakers, cordless phone set, TV set, power supply box of CPU, etc.

Just a device that doesn't respond to pings...

This topic needs to be moved to the Dway forum...

Angela641, do you know what satellite and transponder you are on?

You can find out by going to

http://192.168.0.1/

and clicking on system info

Your satellite will be listed as "longitude" and the transponder will be listed as "frequency".

If you are on 83W and 1370, the problem is most likely with DWAY, as many of us on that sat and transponder are having a slow upload speed problem.

As far as Vonage is concerned, DUMP IT.  If it does work on Dway, it won't work well, and is a well documented issue.  Netzero or anything that uses Cystalvoice will work well.  I think Net2Phone works well also.

Other things to consider:

Check your transmission stats, it will be on the http://192.168.0.1/ page, listed as transmission info.  If you are getting a lot of tranmission errors, there may be other problems with your setup.

I understand from ghostbuster that Dway is having some glitches. Perhaps he can help you on tuning your transponder and choice of phone set.

Here is a cablenut file to tweak your window registry. Download the Cablenut Adjuster from www.cablenut.com. Use it to open the ccs file, click 'Save to Registry', exit and reboot your comp to take effect.

If you're on satellite AMC9 (1370) you're most likely expeiencing a problem that has been widely reported.  For more information check out these two posts on DSLReports.com:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15530328

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15486927

A workaround that seems to help is to force range down to 2/3 (instead of 4/5).  A better solution is to call Direcway and complain very specifically about slow uploads on AMC9 - and mention that it's being experienced and documented by multiple users.

Good luck!

Transmit Status Transmitter ready. (TxCode 8)

Number of Successful Transmissions 265618

Number of Failed Transmissions 486

Number of Packets Submitted for Transmission 104132

Not bad, have you tried force ranging?

What's your rate code? To find out, type 192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html in your browser and on the first page, look for "Rate code".
