I have a DSL Modem and what I did was go to Run, CMD, cd, then typed in ipconfig /all and found my settings to be the following:

C:>ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

        Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : DFCV8Z51

        Primary Dns Suffix  . . . . . . . :

        Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid

        IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

        WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

        DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : ms.com

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : ms.com

        Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel® PRO/100 VE Network Connecti

on

        Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0C-F1-E9-44-51

        Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.47

        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

        DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

                                            71.250.0.12

Then what I did was set this information up as my static ip.  Should I have just left it alone?
