If you can get a cellular signal - then look at this service !!!

AT&T's URL is

http://www.cingular.com/sbusiness/data_connect

and modems page is

http://developer.cingular.com/developer/devices/verticalDevices/

Most Of The Cellular Providers have a data service

Called speakeasy today, you still need a phone line for their DSL service. They rent the phone line from the phone company and you do not need phone service from your local company. So you save the price of phone service and just pay for DSLThey do not have Cell Tower DSL. Same requirements for DSL as your local phone.

Does it work on any signal, or just service from certain providers?

They're actually installing a tower nearby; I currently get 1-2 bars, but it depends on where I am in my house.

my mistake sorry  -

thanks for proper input about the service there dude

***** ****** ******** ******** ********* ******** ******** ******* ******

how ever yes to cellular based service

AT&T has it - good service I've had and used it

750K baud was average connect speed back in 2003/2004

but was CDMA and not GSM / 3G / Edge

( cannot recall names for data service ) and other data services

as it was still being installed here in the Las Vegas Area

Had a Motorola Timeport 2.5g phone and data connect cable via rs232 port

or could use IR (inferred) witch I did most of the time

Again as I recall in 2003/2004 years connect was around 750K baud

I think about $70 for unlimited connect service ( not sure - to many years ago)

Also had and used Nextels Data Service and phone

but hated it -- I mean hated nextel

and went back to AT&T

Never used Verizon Data Service

as it was 360 Communications back then

and did not like them - too

Now that 3g is out, I'm sure that data rates for connect are faster

but not kept up on the service

AT&T's URL is

http://www.cingular.com/sbusiness/data_connect

and modems page is

http://developer.cingular.com/developer/devices/verticalDevices/

The Cellular Providers have a data service

as I recall most of the modems non laptop based

used RS232 as data connect port

but that was years ago

hope this info helps and again sorry for incorrect post

have a good day -

it is sin city dude - sin city

Hi Jeff,

Can you explain this in simple terms? I've been looking at the Cingular page you linked (I have Cingular cell service from a nearby town and 5 bar connection where I actually live). How does this really work? Do I use it from my cell or home computer?

And it says With EDGE you can wirelessly access your corporate applications and e-mail when away from the office at average speeds of 70 to 135 kbps.*

Am I looking at the wrong thing?

Thanks!

requires a data modem from cellular provider

some phones have data modem built into them

and a interface cable is needed to connect to pc ( rs232 )

there is different data services

and I cannot recall what they are or connect speeds

was 2003/2004 when I had service

but industry has majorly changed

and I have not kept up on it
