Is this speed ok?

I have the Bell Sympatico 5Mbps service.  They did guarantee me at least 4Mbps and this is what I'm getting after tweaking:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 3359 Kbps about 3.36 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

Download Speed is:: 410 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net  (Server 1)

Test Time:: 2006/04/30 - 12:04pm

Bottom Line:: 59X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 2.5 sec

Tested from a 2992 kB file and took 7.296 seconds to complete

Opera/9.00 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)

Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 38.06 % faster than the average for host (bell.ca)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-5X07W9I42

Does anyone know if this is ok or should I be getting better service?  Thanks.

do you have the same speed with IE or Firefox?

also make a linequality test

start-cmd

pathping testmy.net

(it takes several minutes)

when done, rightclick choose all and hit enter

now paste all in a new post

Hey victord66,

Sounds like you have a lot of tweak programs operating.  Sometimes, they can conflict with each other.  I would suggest clearing and saving the values of all other apps but cablenut (ie. use only cablenut!).

Try the file I have zipped below.  When you open it in cablenut, set the DefaultReceiveWindow to 383328.  Save to registry, reboot, retest.

Another factor might be that you are running programs or processes which are interfering with your connection.  Things like firewalls, browser toolbars/extensions, p2p or torrent clients, even IM's can cause your speedtest results to be lower.  Often, booting into safe mode with networking and then testing is a good way to see if this is the case.

i cant see any problem in that pathping test

what speed do you get with this http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/d_load.php?ni=1&st=st&tt=1&ta=1&top=000&out_src=7MB

also how far away from CO are you? Did you use to get full 5 Mbps?

The thing is VanBuren I'm right next door to the main Bell Canada relay station, so I figured that I should be getting much better speeds.   You can't seem to see anything wrong in the logs I've submited and even though these tweaks have improved things a little, I'm still a ways from the 5Mbps and I've never had 5Mbps since it's been installed.

I don't think tweaking any more is going to help.  Could it be perhaps a faulty modem?  Or maybe Bell Sympatico just doesn't want to give my my 5Mbps?

victord66  if your provider has a speed test, just take several speed test's at the bad time of day. And use this info to complain. You do not have to have a tech out to log test's. Make sure it is always at bad time of day, to proove your point. Their test is also undeniable. ;)
