Very bad lag while playing Runescape!

Recommended Posts

For the past few weeks I've been having constant patches of lag where the game freezes for like 4 seconds at a time. I don't know exactly why this is happening or how I could fix this problem. If anyone has any input or suggestion for this problem I'd be glad to hear them.

Yes I do have a wildblue internet connection.

The weird thing about all this lag though, is that a few weeks ago I had barely any lag while playing. Another thing that leads me to suspect something strange, is that a friend of mine also has wildblue and plays runescape with little to no lag.

Any suggestions?

Has your signal changed at all?

Maybe you could be FAP'd.. It is near the end of the month

if your game is freezing(and not losing connection) its probably because your ping time exceeded 2000. if it does, then it times out and cancels it basically, so your player wont do anything. if it happens more than once, itll seem like a lag spot. its not suprising, because with a initial delay of about 700 because of satellite thne the fact it has to go through ENGLAND game servers i wouldnt be suprised if it happend quite a bit.

IF however your losing connection instead then i dont know :(

In my experience swift switch and runescape.com arent too different in the ways of lag. If you are playing on firefox thats your problem. For some reason firefox doesnt handle runescape very well. I played rs for 3 years straight almost every day  but i quit recently. I never had problems with runescape lagging even when my connection was having problems, so just play it in IE or Swift switch.

On Nov. 17, Wildblue released a firmware update that causes huge latency spikes in your connection.  They are also most likely using traffic shaping to put ICMP traffic at the low end of the priority list.

Some have speculated that Wildblue did this on purpose.

Explanation:

A few months ago, Wildblue introduced a traffic shaping method which reduces your bandwidth when your connection is idle, or you aren't doing anything bandwidth intensive.  In other words, when your usage picks up, your speeds pick up.  Well, this didn't sit to well with many users because it created connection issues, so they created a program called "big ping" which I guess keeps your usage up enough to keep your bandwidth at full throttle.

There has been speculation that this "firmware update" on Nov 17th increased ping times to bypass this "big ping" method of avoiding the throttling.

Please remember this is just speculation.

How is this related to the topic?  Because everyone that got this firmware update has had terrible pings.
