I need help with my (PLDT) DSL...badly...

My computer's running on Windows XP SP2 and my ISP is PLDT DSL (Philippines) with an average of more or less 512kbps.

Apparently, I'm only running at

which just makes me so frustrated with my download speed  :angry5:

I tried using TCP Optimizer, but I'm not sure how to use it....

And the analyzers' results are:

hey markgot and welcome to the forum :)

you seem to have a problem between these 2 hops, loosing packets

try powercycle modem/router, leave it off for atleast 2 minutes

also if you use a phone extension wire, replace it or bypass it and connect modem/router direct to your house main phone socket.

try that first, and see if the timeouts * in your traceroute dissapear. If not, call your ISP and let them check your modem sync and signals.

When thats fixed, ill help you with Tcp Optimizer settings or Cablenut settings.

great :)

now lets make sure no settings are wrong

download and install cablenut http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1013.0;attach=64

open adjuster, click "delete cablenut tweaks" and click "save to registry"

now all fields is blank, click "Exit"

now open Tcp Optimizer

make sure all MTU fields is blank for all Network adapters

like this picture

click apply and reboot your PC

now make a new TCP analyzer test here https://www.speedguide.net:8080/ and post results

also test speed again

what speed does your ISP advertise? If its 512Kbps then your friend might use firewalls or internet accelerators that can give fake scores.

Ok, apparently, my ISP is running at 1mbps, and my friend doesn't really believe in those accelerators cuz he thinks that they're just RAM eaters. :)

And the results...

still same speed? then also follow these steps

5. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.  You most likely only need "Client for Microsoft Networks" and "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)."  If you share files on your home network, you also need "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks."

6. Open Internet Explorer and select the Tools menu, go to Internet Options, Connections tab, click the

LAN settings button, make sure nothing there is checked.

7. Never Connect to your modem via USB ! Always connect to your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it depends on the ISP service unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL. If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

8. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for at least 3 minutes

9. Download, update, and do a scan with SpyBot and Ad Aware to remove any spyware

10. ZoneAlarm firewall has known problems with dropping speed, I suggest to uninstall it and compare speed

12. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one, AVG, Avast!, and Ewido are great.

VanBuren, I just finished doing all those listed...finally...but still no change...I also did the TCP optimizer config, still going to do another speed test though...just to see any difference... :)

At last, my connection's better!!!  :D It seems the problem was in our modem...it was just too old I guess....

After the replacement, I just did what you guys posted, since it was still slow, and now here's the new result :D

no problem, are you sure the cap is 1 Mbps? Coz thats great speed 0.67 Mbps above cap  :)
