no its not illegally, actually, go here, why is it so hard to believe:  http://www.midcocomm.com/ResidentialServices/MidcoNetBroadband/Index.cfm

I have the Midco Max, and read in that paragragh and it says unthrottled download speeds and 512 uploads  and i have called them to make sure and yes you could even have call them blunt its 1-800-888-1300  someones there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

there is no uncapped modem unless you did it illegally.  call your isp and ask what the advertised speeds are or check your bill and it might say it there.

I just figured that Unthrottled was the same as uncapped  at least thats what Midco told me when i called them is that they dont have limits on my download speeds and then i can get it as fast as the servers can send it to me.

Your connection is: 12841 Kbps or 12.84 Mbps

You Downloaded at: 1568 kB/s

You are running: 224 times faster than 56K and can Download 1 megabyte in 0.65 second(s)

Member Ident:Username:bryanlautt CompID:222113756048

Test Time:: 2006/09/30 - 4:00am

Test Browser and OS info: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; InfoPath.1)

Test ID: C9EJFUZT8 (if this is a screenshot go to testmy.net to see if this is fake)

Diagnosis ^info^: Awesome! 20% + : 118.01 % faster than the average for host (midco.net)

This was tested from a 20972 kB file and took 13.379 seconds to complete

Nowhere in that ad does it say uncapped. Try this test, at this time of night it should be a breeze. And post you score.

You should have out of this world speeds.

This speed test is from charter This one here i get the highest maybe its because its closer to me i dont know, i know that the farther away the test sites are they get worse, ok like for instance fore i did the tweak  i ran about 5 to 6mb connection on this site doing the tests and then around 8 to 9 at charters test and then around 4 to 5 at dslreports. and now i have to say its kinda funny is that dslreports have gotten worse around 2 to 3 now while this site and charters have increased alot.  Go figure

TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.3.3e

click START to begin

Preparing Speedtest . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  Done

running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 496.38Kb/s

running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 20.30Mb/s

Your speed is 369.13 times faster than 56Kb dialup

Even uncapped, you still can't get speeds above 38Mbps or so...

No, you can't.. but you can get close depending on your equipment and your ISP's . I am not regulated down but hardly ever achieve over 25mpbs.

I have similar service as him, on the SAME ISP. The residental is on a lower priority tear @ Midco than my business, and depending on node traffic etc he won't get quite as good of speeds as I will.. The unthrottled speeds down on the midco max package equals somewhere between 12 and 15 if the traffic is right...

my line is in a rather.. um, scarry part of town, where not many have cable internet..  = me being 1 of 2 people on my node.  I should be able to get a theoretical maximum on DOCSIS 2.0  if all my equipment and theirs were upt to the task, which it's not, I could never suport 40Mbps down through my  network yet.

So, truthfully, he is not capped on his download speed, but neither are 6-7 other people on his node... midco just lets them fight it out for bandwidth.

  • 1 month later...

I just did a quick comparison of testmy.net and this speedtest.net.

I am supposed to have 15/2 speeds I think but this is what I got which is kind of the reverse of what I expected (I thought testmy would be lower than speedtest).

testmy....  9884 download, 1764 upload

speedtest.. 9468 download, 1763 uopload

optimum site's "test" 12600 download, 2500 upload
