still pertty bad,

do this, clear your cache and do this test http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/d_load.php?step1_timed=&step1_size=&step1_validation=&testall=&s=12160&st=st&ni=ni&ta=&top=&tt=1&nobar=

be sure to clear your cache before you test.

"i am aol platinum"

That seems to be the problem

Lets try a different approach.

Is it a clean computer?

"Achieve the Best Performance Out of Your Computer "

http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-4257

Don't forget cleaning in safe mode also.  :D

Defrag, Disk Clean, etc...

Just because you dug it out, does not mean it was not infected or cluttered.  ;)

Use the analyzer here & let's see where the RWIN,MTU & MSS are.

Also update the IE I bet it's not the latest version.

In IE in tools/internet options/general/temporary Internet files/ settings go ahead a move up the amount for now & see if that's partly blocking your speed. Then move it back down if you like.

https://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php

Also since you didn't post it what is the OS?

ok here is what i got from the analyizer

MTU = 1450

MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

MSS = 1410

MSS is not optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 514648

RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits (scale factor of 6)

Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 64331

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.

Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

518880 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 8)

259440 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)

129720 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)

64860 (MSS x 46)

bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your TCP Window limits you to: 20585.92 kbps (2573.24 KBytes/s) @ 200ms

Your TCP Window limits you to: 8234.368 kbps (1029.296 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 54 hops

TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

i done the other speed test above, but came out the same. sorry u lost me whats OS?

Sorry guys i asume the post author is in the UK. Unfortuantely anyone who is on Upto 8Mb speeds will not actually get 8Mb the max you will be able to get is what you line can take...

it varies alot e.g depends how far you are from your local exchange and what is the quality of the line.

at post author http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php visit this and then tell us what it tells us UNder the heading BT ADSL as that is a rough guess as to what you can get...

scumbucketsex ;The MTU & MSS are wrong.I'm not sure which you need but either MTU 1492 for DSL or 1500 for other broadband. & minus 40 these for the MSS.

I don't know where the Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 514648  came from but if it needs this size try 524288.

If you have cablenut then

These set MSS They should be 1452 for DSL or 1460 for other broadband.

TcpRecvSegmentSize

TcpSendSegmentSize

These should be 522720 for DSL or 522680 for other broadband.

TcpWindowSize

GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize

These are based on the size RWIN already being used.

Also try disabling DefaultTOSValue  by setting it to zero. This works better for some connections.

The same is true for EnablePMTUDiscovery. You just have to see which works best on your connection. It can be either way.

dlewis23 is having sucess with another MSS setting but I don't want to confuse things this should get you started.

FiberOptic ;I don't think he expects 8Mb just better than the under 2 MB he's getting now.

I haven't read the link yet but I'm fixing to.
