xma Posted September 9, 2006 CID Share Posted September 9, 2006 i can open some web sites and some others i can't. is it just me or has this happened to others too? i can open bbc news but not cnn. photographyBlog but not imaging resource. it appears that i can access european and asian sites but not north american. can anybody pls tell me what's happening? this has happened to me twice already: once on august 27th and it persisted for 2 days and mysteriously fixed itself, and then again yesterday. my broadband provider (SmartBRO Philippines) seems unable to help too. can anybody help? thanks. I usually point at spyware, ad-ware, malware. FallowEarth Posted September 10, 2006 CID Share Posted September 10, 2006 Could also be a local DNS issue (ie. hosts file). Try disable the DNS caching service on your PC (XP only). From the command line: net stop dnscache If you are still unable to browse to the site, try running a traceroute to the URL. xma Posted September 10, 2006 Author CID Share Posted September 10, 2006 thanks, guys (tommie, php, dlewis23, FallowEarth), for the posted replies. i'll try those things you mentioned the next time this happens. the other day, while i was out for the weekend, i got word that my broadband connection got well again, the browsers (internet explorer & mozilla firefox) could browse normally again. and indeed, now that i'm at my computer with the broadband, the connection is working again like nothing happened. gheez! thanks again, guys.
