Greeting!

I NEED INPUT!

I am considering building a new AMD based PC. I currently have one that I built a couple of years ago, time to upgrade

OK so my question is, what is the best MB price, performance, and reliability wise? I plan on using an AMD 4800 X2 CPU.

Thanks for all input!

PS current system:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2400 MHz

1024MB RAM

BFG 6800 Ultra oc'ed core 454MHz,memory 1.15GHz

WD 200GB SATA HD

500w Ultra X connect PS

ASUS A8V Deluxe MB

Motherbpard: DFI LP nf4 Ultra-D (socket 939) ~120

CPU: 4800 x2 (socket 939) ~230

RAM: OCZ Gold 2GB DDR500 ~200 bux

Power supply: OCZ GameXStream 600W or 700W (depending on how much power you need) ~120-150

Video card: Your choice....its all about how much power you want (7900GT is a good choice)

Case: Your choice....

and bam, you got yourself a good setup

Any particular reason why you want an AMD build up?  If it were me i would go with one of the new intel core 2 duo processors.  They blow any AMD processor out of the water.  Also what is your budget?

Cause AMD is discontinuing the Athlons on 939..  So everything is really cheap..

Looks good to me.. i like what disturbed posted... I would go with an antec ps.. just cause that is what I have always used...

some reasons reason why i recommend ocz ram and ocz power supplies is because i have used both and i couldnt be happier....they have one of the highest standards out there and thus produce very high quality components.....

also, dfi motherboards are known not to work very well with certain ram/power supplies - dfi motherboards such as this one, require very steady/stable power to be provided - and some power supplies do this very poorly....

if in doubt, visit dfi-street.com and the recommendations section to make sure that a component you are buying is compatible with their products

Ok After looking on newegg.com for a quick price compare i found that a AMD X2 4800 will cost you about $291http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103544

Now a core 2 duo e6400 will cost you only $229 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115004

And if you want you can go even cheaper with an e6300 for $185

Now as you can see by a benchmark shown here http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33&model1=433&model2=476&chart=171

The core 2 duo processors out perform the AMD by far. Just look for the red bars for the 2 processors we are looking at here

Just my 2 cents

its amazing how much faster even the cheap intel processor over a amd that is quite a bit more expensive.

Yea thats why it would be pretty smart to build a custom pc around a core 2 duo than a AMD processor.  I just finished up a core 2 build of my own.  E6600 overclocked with 2gb of corsair, asus deluxe motherboard, and x1900 video card.  I decided to go with a cheaper video card and wait for the new DirectX 10 ones.

Good Luck

im with you, can't go wrong with a antec power supply.

Yea, i used to love Antec. Have an Antec case and 2 Antec PSU's, but one died on me last month and it was just over a year old = out of warranty.  :(  The -5 V SB was causing the PC to keep rebooting continuously.

I picked up a 650W BFG Tech PSU, which has a lifetime warranty with 24/7 tech support. It also has a turbo fan button on the back for when I do some heavy BF2 gaming nights.

Picked mine up from Newegg for $112. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817702003
