BMW makes a good car.  Of course, for its age, you can never know what you're getting.  Be sure to take it for a nice drive before you decide.  For me, that's how I decide whether I like a car or not.

I did, it run's smooth.  I also checked on msn.com and the 1996 model came out very good and it costs $9,875 - $11,050 (Kelley Blue Book).

and the mileage is way too high...for 7g u could get a much newer car...with alot less miles...the staus of owning a beemer just wouldn't be worth the money, for me anyway...and like doosday said...the cost for reapair is way up there too...hmmmm...i'd give this some serious thought if i were u...

I would be weary of a used BMW.  While they are great cars, they are extremely expensive to repair as Doomsday said.

There are companies here that for $100 will come with you to look at the vehicle, and perform simple tests on it(cylinder compression tests..etc) to help determine it's condition.  Most owners won't mind, unless they are trying to hide something.

Look at the pedals for abnormal wear...People that drive the car hard tend to have unevenly worn brake/clutch pedals.  Make sure you look at the oil/transmission dipstick, and see what color the oil/fluid is...If it's black, walk away...A lot of people for some reason don't think the automatic transmission fluid needs to be changed...I changed mine at 25K, and it was black already(I do drive on beach so it stresses it a bit).

If you have $7,000, you could put that down on a new car, and have minimal payments, that would probably be cheaper than the repair costs on the BMW, and will last longer.

Say for example the transmission blows on the BMW...That's going to be a few grand...Now say you have $10,000 invested in a car that you can sell for maybe $7,000...If you have a new car, and the tranny blows, Mr. Warranty will save your ass.

In my opinion, I would only buy that car if you have at least $3,000 in reserve for possible repairs.

Just remember used cars are a like flipping a coin...

I would have only said yes if it were diesel like (Mercedes). But researching it found it to be gasoline. So like said before, only if you need the prestigue. Nothing else would sell me on it.

Just my thoughts.  :grin2:

They have been advertising a brand new car here for $8500. If you would like I will jot it down next time I see it. For cash they might do less. And there are cheap ones out for a little over $10,000 with like 10 year warranties now.

Let the little inner bug go and go window shopping instead.  :azn:

Prestige ! , I worked a time in Germany , BMW was called the German workmans Ford , the Audi is called the thinking mans car over there , only rude boys and used car salesmen  drive Beemers in the UK , maybe they will get better when they finally catch up with modern technology,

just my opinion , yeah I think they are crap, in case you are wondering

How about he sells it to me for 6,500. Still to expensive?

 $500 off , do you reckon he would take it , if so why ,is it a private or trade sale ? just take it easy on this, there are a million motors for sale out there, I guess I cant dissuade you from buying a BMW, we all like different cars , or they wouldn't make so many  :undecided:

just remember if he jumps at $500 off , it is still to high , if you want money off find some faults with it (tire wear , milage ,etc , )

Hi I F1NAL I, sorry for another neg. post on this car, I just phoned a friend ,

a BMW mech/parts specialist , He says no at any price, that model had serious problems with the engine , he has made a fortune doing engine swaps on that model ,

"  The 328i is often a model to steer clear of. It was plagued by problems with its Nikasil cylinder liners and this often resulted in new engine warranty claims. The flipside of this is that there may well be some very well looked after low mileage 328i models with replacement engines that would make a great buy. "

apparently the only BMW car affected this way , just thought you should know these facts , sorry guys for the double post , but I thought this info warranted it ,

straight from the horses mouth , as we say in the UK

Did you tell him it was a 1996, I checked and the motors on those years came out good.
