Just got my new 15 Mbps Fios, running at less than 10 Mbps

Thanks for the help. I ran TCP optimizer for optimal settings at 15 Mbps, but I saw no increase in speeds. Additionally, I was wondering if my computer could be holding it back because I don't meet verizon's recommended requirements for 15/2. (I am running a 600 mhz pentium 3 on 384 mb of ram.) Thanks again for the help.

I was using my spare computer while my was down. It was a Pll 350MHZ 124ram. My speeds were 4/384. But on this comp. I was lucky to get 1.5 down. So I would say you are right about meeting verizon's recommended requirements for 15/2.

Hye Patrick

i also noticed that when u did the 1st post

when u tested not in TM.N but on another website

TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.4.11

click START to begin

Connected to: nitro.ucsc.edu  --  Using IPv4 address

Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  Done

checking for firewalls . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  Done

running 10s outbound test (client-to-server [C2S]) . . . . . 1.79Mb/s

running 10s inbound test (server-to-client [s2C]) . . . . . . 14.28Mb/s

The slowest link in the endual testo-end path is a 10 Mbps Ethernet subnet

that u got close to 15/2

so it was just a case of the wrong test in tm.n

btw

u make me jealous LOL

This is my first post here, so hi everybody.

Man those are some sweet speeds, I can only get 1.5 Mb Wildblue where I live.  I've even thought about moving to the nearest place that Fios is or will be available.  I mean, really...

I have an uncle who works at Embarq, our local phone provider, and he's been pushing for dsl to expand into our area for years now, but apparently they'd rather focus on those who have broadband already...

it sucks that it is that way. ISP's hardly ever want to put Broadband into new markets.

OK, lets get something straight. Does DSL not use the old copper going into a house already? And cable has to run all new? I am a bit confused here.  :undecided:

but DSL can only go 18,500 feet before they have to put in a remote DSLAM (very expensive) cable has really no distance limit so they dont have to put in a CMTS every 20,000 feet.

Actually I forgot to mention that according to my uncle, Embarq was set to expand dsl into my area early in 2007, but it got dropped because of budget issues.  blah...

I don't think they'd have to lay new lines where I'm at.  I think we already have fiber optic lines down my road (at least the orange and white marker at my driveway says so).

its not that they dont what too. They just wont make any money if they do, it is a loss for them.

Yep, he is right. Think about it. Lets say $150,000 worth new equipment to get to you and people around you. Well you would probably pay them $50 max a month. So it would be a big loss.
