trojanvirus...welcome to the forum :welcome: seems u may be quite an asset with ur inside knowledge.

i must ask out of curiosity...why would u pick such an unnerving user name??

enjoy ur stay...good to have u here  :hello:

thanks for the welcome tdawnaz ^_~V

i really do want to meet guys like you who tweaks, program, i don't know if you guys hack, but i hope so, cause it's the basic of programming, and of course help people by interacting all kinds of problem like mine.

trojan virus? as my username? hmmm lemmee think.. well, that's a good question. (i'm sorry for the OT but i really do have a topic for now) back to my topic... i am L2 technician in Geek Squad and AT&T 2wire department.  i work as L2-TSR in AT&T and i work home as L2 technician in Geek Squad.  i do remove virus, spywares, and blue screen errors of death, as well as Macintosh connectivity wireless problems by using the remote access feature of the OS.  i love lurking around inside the registry and the system and i was once called by my supervisor as Mr.Virus... then that time i research for the best virus that i've ever encountered.. then POOF!! it become Trojan Virus.. a worm-type virus that can creep inside the system and gets information. When provoked, it cloaks and regenerate itself to another location by using the registry.  That's the history of my username...

End of OT.. back to topic...

this is my connection right now after a couple of tweakings inside the registry and with the help of regedit+cablenut and my head is aching now.. haha :(

not bad... now i can play again..

@resopalrabotnic

i'm just stating the truth behind the local inbound call centers.  i'm an agent and a customer... i do understand how the customer feels when they can't get what they want.  we filipinos as customers are still on the lowside of being mean to the filipino agents and "service" that they are giving us.  yes, i do know what's the problem of smartbro's system.. but when you ask the agent about a certain problem.. what they do is fool you.. as if they "assume" that we don't know what we are doing and they can say whatever they want cause their the gods of connection.  i've learned this from one of my trainers... "don't put an ass between you and me.  that's what excellent customer service that you can give to your customers"

i do apologize if i am mean with my colleagues, but if they will not change the way they give information to their customers.. i will stay and become their worst nightmare..

by the way guys.. i have an image of a homemade satellite dish.. i'll post it soon.. hope that will work for all of us.. i'll try it first.. i'll just look first for the computation of the distance and radius of the poorman's wireless extender.. haha

i wonder if a sat dish is the right way to go for the terrestrial radio connection. you might be better off using a Yagi Type antenna (which you can find all over the place for amateur radio enthusiasts.) while the maximum signal strength with that would be less than what you could do with a dish getting a dish configured and aimed properly is more difficult than the Yagi which has a wider signal club.

also one thing to consider is the existence of safeguards in smartbros equipment. if you shoot your uplink at the antenna with a dish you could get a signal far beyond that of the normal signal. if the equipmenthas built in fail safes then it could shut itself down upon being 'spiked', killing your connection entirely. i am not versed in the legal situation in the phillipines but i would think that such an event could land you in pretty hot water if not with the authorites then at least with smartbro.

it's kinda like that but it's different.. i used it before to maintain a good connection.. it has an electromagnetic pulse included on it that amplifies the range (it's like mixing a wireless range extender (netgear) from a modem that has wireless capability (2wire modem router)) and the dish that can amplify low frequency to a higher frequency.. i'll just try it first before i can advertise it here.

i've done this before, back when we all are still using dial up services.  i've revised the router's capability to a shotgun modem where it provides 49-53kbps on each of every computer in the network.

even though there's a law here in the philippines tweaking the outside source and mainly not the canopy itself is not part of the smartbro's agreement.  the only thing that i will do is to attach something on the post (note: not inside the canopy) and provide it with a wireless push settings.  that is why i'm searching for more information about how smartbro's canopy push the signal in and out of the canopy without me doing anything on the settings.

the only cyber law here in the philippines are trademarks and hacking.. but what i will do is my own trademark.. and it's my thesis when i am still in college.. i just remember the time when i created that dish.. i've networked two computers wirelessly with the device that i have created.

i'm still analyzing the canopy's work arounds.. but thanks to frostbound that thread is a good start hihi..

@resopalrabotnic

why are you mad at me? :( did i say anything that made you feel like that? hmmmm.. are you an agent of smartbro that is why you treat me like that?

nah he's not mad...read the title under his name...he's a troll by nature...they like to play devils advocate...he means no harm...he's actually very soft and cuddly...and likes his furry belly rubbed...makes him purr...

he's one of the good guys...i keep trying to make him a pet...but trolls don't like to be confined or restrained

like the old lady said. i ain't mad at you, i'm just urging caution.

you plan to go completely out of spec with your wireless rig. you should consider the legal ramifications of doing so before potentially frying a very expensive piece of equipment.

(the transciever on their tower if your sat-dish rig happens to overload the circuits)

keep in mind that the equipment is set up to be sensitive enough to get a good signal off a fairly nondirectional antenna in adverse conditions. if you hook it into a dish you get a signal that is higher by several orders of magnitude. now picture this signal being amplified like a regular weak signal and passed on to the receiver. kablammo.

haha.. i thought he's mad at me :P

thanks for the advice troll XD just kiddin hahahaha.. don't you worry i will not fry it.. i'll double check that it'll never be fried :)

just for an update..

TSR called me last night.. and they were like apologizing for all of the inconvenience that the service is giving me.. but i'm sad that the field technicians who came here last 3 weeks ago were terminated cause they did not double check all the settings from the canopy.. what they did is just install the canopy and they're done.. no change of settings from the new canopy that they've installed.  they will send a new field technician this day and they will make sure that the connection is fast they way i'm expecting it.  we will see what they will do.  i was laughing yesterday cause the one who's talking to me was a supervisor and they were asking me if i can apply to them as the're senior technician.. awwwww how sweet but i rejected it.. i will accept it if the offer is good.. but they're only giving me 15k a month.. not bad but my currently salary as of now is thrice of what they're offering me.

i'll keep you all updated here of what's happening able for us not to tweak any settings on the canopy but retain the speed and service that we all are expecting..

i did remember what that supervisor told me.. "we know that you are a good technician, and the technician that we will be sending you is kinda scared of all the questions that you will ask him.." hahahahaha.. afraid of getting terminated? nah.. i'm not like that, i just hope that the technician will do his job and fix the problem and i will be silent for him to keep his job.. i'm so mean~ :(

you are a blessed guy. if they're offering you 15K and your current salary is thrice the offer, it means you are receiving 45K. wow.

here's a silly and unsolicited advice: why don't you just let the technician drop by and let him sit down and watch you. you fix the canopy config yourself heheheeee  :cheesy:

that would be funny...really funny...as he sits there with his mouth hanging open in amazement...

but u know what would be better...offer ur services as a teacher...teaching their techs how to do it right...and u could ask for another 10k over what u currently make

:) tell them...think of the happy customers :)

A dish(passive antenna/reflector) might be a good solution to increase the RSSI or the power received  as it helps the antenna/SM to gather the signal. There's also a so called Stinger for  Motorola canopy with the same purpose.  But I don't think it is ultimate solution to burst the smartbro internet speed.

that's the thing that i will do haha thanks man  :cheesy:.. i really am so mean.. i'll just ask the technician to deactivate my canopy restriction.. and tell him to sit down and relax.. bwahahahaha *ebul laugh*

@tdawnaz

hmmmmmm.. that's a good idea? product trainer and quality specialist.. i can give them a proposal for that and it's for 55k  :smitten: bwahahahaha *ebul laugh agen*

by the way.. when i was disconnected earlier.. i tried to ping 10.0.0.1 and guess what i received.. lots of request timed out.. that means that the canopy is resetting by itself once in a while.. or there is really a problem with the canopy..

to the others.. try pinging your canopy [ping 10.0.0.1 -t] if you receive lots of request timed out.. report that by email and don't forget to call them after you send your email.. they will surely change the canopy.. cause that's one of the big problem for wireless.. if a modem/router has a request timed out when you are pinging them, that means that there is a certain capacitor or chip that is not working inside.. and the resistor that is attached on it, after the capacitor or the chip, is resisting the flow of signal going in and out of your computer

**********

ouch i was disconnected again after i click the post button.. hahahaha what a connection..  :2funny:

it's just a test.. so if ever my theory is correct.. i will ask SM to do it and see for themselves.. at least they will have a solution to their "mass" problem.. and it's for a good but not overcharged price hahaha  :evil6:

We'll I have tried it and I am currently using a stinger for SM. Somehow it improves the RSSI and jitter value. But the biggest issue is on the base station. No matter how good the signal we received or the (microwave link) but if their end is faulty then still we get a slow internet speed... Hope you can figure out how to tweak the bandwidth.hehe

this post is for the others who use limewire and/or other p2p client softwares//

download spy sweeper

update it

uninstall limewire or other p2p client softwares (coz they're the spywares)

fully scan your computer for spywares

optimize your browser

remove all the files inside the cookies, prefetch, and temp folder

re-scan your computer again for spywares (full time scan)

go to your OS search box and search for the keyword *limewire* or *put here the name of the p2p client software* (asterisks are included)

remove all the folders for limewire and/or other p2p client softwares

tweak your settings.. and you're done

restart the computer

you'll have a faster connection after that.. cause basically spywares eat lots of bandwidth.. and if you have virus inside your computer.. i would suggest to reformat your computer and analyze where you got that virus... sometimes you'll get it from diskettes (if you're still using it coz i don't), flash disks, and free softwares (freewares) that you download from the net..

the dish will only help speeds if your slow speed is due to poor reception. you will not be able to go faster thanthe limit set by the provider.

oh, and it's not freeware that brings virii. it's the other kind of "free" software.

yup, he's right.. not all.. you just need first to check the provider of that freeware.. 30% of the freewares are totally trojans and spywares.. so you need to make sure that you are downloading the right freeware
