Optimize for Throughput not CPU

Ok I'll start this off by saying I'm not sure if this will help everyone. Chances are it won't if your connection doesn't use your ethernet card or if your card doesn't support the option.

Recently I formatted and then updated my drivers. I noticed my speed had TANKED badly on these tests. I was getting like 30-40% worse than "average for my host". I tried everything to fix it. Virus scans, adware/spyware scans, numerous optimization programs. And some of the steps I followed made a difference. But I never got above the average for my host.

For awhile I gave up. And then I decided to screw around on my own. The fruits of that below:

1) Right click My Computer, select Properties

2) Goto the Hardware Tab, Click the Device Manager button (first from the top)

3) Go down to "Network Adapters"

4) Right click the Ethernet adapter you are using to connect with, then go to Properties

5) Goto the Advanced tab

6) There should be options here, leave most of them alone. Go down to "Optimize For" or "Optimize" (click the text)

7) If CPU is selected, change it to "Throughput"

Restart your computer and power cycle the modem

At any rate, that fixed my speed issues on Windows XP.
