WHOA! My comcast speed is now 32 Mbit down/ 3Mbit up!!!

This is no joke!  I've confirmed it with multiple speed tests both yesteday and today, on this site and a few others.  I have the 8Mbit / 768Kbit plan from Comcast and live in Eliot, ME.  A friend of mine who lives in town has confirmed the same speed on his connection as well.  Is anyone else noticing a speed increase in the last week?  Anyone seen any articles mention plans of this?  My connection was downloading consistently from fast servers at 4 MEGABYTES a second!  I think that's about double the speed of the average fiber optic speed here in the US.

Well, right now I'm connnected remotely to my machine from work so it's hard to get an accurate result, it mostly only shows on my upload speed right now, which NEVER went faster than 95 KB/sec until now, when it goes near 700 KB/sec a lot of the time!  Also, I've never seen my download speed burst past 2.1 MB/sec now I see it burst to over 4 MB/sec a lot of the time!  Again, the results below are not very accurate, they were done via remote desktop!

I'm not sure what you're looking for here... what does me using a particular crappy mirror prove?  I posted my results using the default test on this website that picks the fastest mirror for you, and the largest file size.  The mirror you keep posting give me very innaccurate results, cause the connection is intermittant and keeps pausing from my connection on that particular mirror (It'll go 2-3 MB/sec and then stop and go 0 for a few secs, on and off).  Believe me, I confirmed my results on a few other bandwidth testing websites and got similar results to what I posted.  Here is the only thing I could copy and paste off of Speakeasy, again over my crappy remote desktop connection:

Last Result:

Download Speed: 15886 kbps (1985.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 2282 kbps (285.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Zombievac, All you are experiencing is Comcast's powerboost, You are not receiving anything other than what I am receiving.

And also the results you are seeing on remote desktop are accurate, You see from remote desktop the same you would see if you were sitting right at the computer, Your office connection doesnt conflict the speed results.

Thanks Nos. Have you been getting that upload speed consistently since Comcast added powerboost?

All I know is SOMETHING must have changed... atleast in my area. I have been testing this connection often for years and I have never once seen it burst over 2.5 Megabytes/sec download or 95 kiloBytes/sec on upload. I used to quite often get the tests I posted today (16 MBit down) with the PowerBoost feature but I'm telling you, I've never seen powerboost perform anywhere near this level. My friend noticed the exact same thing. Keep in mind the scores I posted on this thread arent anywhere near what I got consistently at home last night and this morning (25-32 megabit down, 3+ megabit up)

Maybe Comcast just turned on our powerboost feature on the upload side of things, in my neighborhood? I mean it literally is 6x faster than it ever was all the time now. Or maybe they increased the bandwidth on there end in my area? Anyone have any more info?

You probably never ever reset your cable modem or powercycled it, So Im guessing your power went out recentaly or you had to unplug it, But anyways whenever an ISP makes a service change you have to powercycle your modem in order to receive the new speeds.

Upload powerboost is a new thing, The download boost has been around for quite awhile now.

Actually, to be honest, I powercycle my modem and router all the time (we lose power twice a week at least) :uglystupid2:

And I know I have been experiencing the powerboost feature for a year or more now, since I did consistently get more than 8 megabit down on tests for quite a while, sometimes more than twice that amount. Plus, don't you think it's weird that it happened to both me and my friend in the same neighborhood on the same day it seems? I'm guessing it must just have been Comcast upgrading their pipe in my area.

BTW, how new is the upload powerboost?  A week or less?

Powerboost takes quite awhile to roll out, I know I seen people on testmy.net experiencing it way before me, I got it a week after the first person to post on here. So its just a matter of when they start rolling it out to your area. And that is why you and your friend got it on the same day, They roll it out one area at a time.

Thanks, man.  That must explain it, that and me getting some abnormally high powerboosted download speeds at the same time.  Maybe when they rolled out the upload powerboost, they increased the cap (or removed it entirely) on the download side of things too in my area.

Nahh, The powerboost itself is completely random, Ive seen anywhere from 10 mb speeds to 50 mb speeds.

I am the friend he is referring to that pointed this out to him a couple days ago. First, I noticed just an upload powerboost 3 or 4 days ago. I said to my girlfriend, "sweet, now the next step is permenantly increasing it so they might actually be competitive with verizon". The very next day I noticed the speed lasting longer than just the initial 20-30 second boost. I did fairly extensive bandwidth testing, downloaded torrents... had a friggin sweet connection. Usually capped around 45k/sec, i was uploading 60k/sec with torrents and had plenty of bandwidth left over to whiz through web sites. It was able to upload a steady 150k/sec no problem. Unfortunately, that seemed to have ended between last night and right now. Now its back to the regular upload/download powerboost.

By the way, WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. I have a screenshot to prove it that I sent to zombievac the night I noticed it. It WAS NOT just the normal powerboost, nor did any of these 3 changes seem to require a powercycle of the cable modem. In the screenshot, the vertical lines in DU Meter are 1 min apart. You can see the upload speed of 115k/sec lasted about a minute on that first test visible on the graph, obviously longer than the powerboost time. I didn't take any screenshots, but later on in the night i had the whole bottom of DU meter showing a steady 10 mins of 90k/sec. Seems this was either an experiment or a mistake on Comcasts part. Still nice just to have the upload powerboost for now at least :)

my normal upload speed is not 90kB/sec now. it was a while back before i moved, but now we are not on the highest tier so it maxes out at 45kB/sec after the 20-30 second powerboost. even if 90 was normal was normal for me, we were getting much higher anyway, so your statement "And the normal upload speed is 90Kbps, so that wasnt boosted either." does not make any sense whatsover. it MAY just be powerboost as you say, but at the very least it was an extremely drastic difference in the way powerboost functions around here. its effect went from 20-30 secs to indefinate. im not trying to define it as anything, powerboost or not, it functioned as if our caps were at a much higher level for a day. it was as good as i would anticipate FIOS to be yesterday, now its just mediocre again.
