Hi Monkhoous: Try this to see if it explains why the lower mtu is working. If you can ping your isp I can't ping mine but learned this on one I could ping.Go to dos type:

ping Your ISP address -f -l packet size ( this is an example put in your approiate settings: ping nts-online.net -f -l 1452) the l is  a small L . then try it with a higher packet size until you get a message about it fragmenting. You packets were probably fragmenting at the higher MTU.The highest packet size you can send without fragmentation should be your max MTU.the good thing about this test is you don't have to change your settings to do it. hey monkhoous :)

I helped you before CA3LE tweaked the server, so comparing diffrent tweakfiles before and after server tweak is like comparing a freefall between a Subaru Impreza and a Volvo 745, they probl hit the ground at the same time, even tho the Subaru suppose to be faster

I scored around 3.3 Mbps down before CA3LE tweaked the server, after i score 9,2 Mbps  :!:

MTU is not a speedtweak, atleast not in this amount of bandwidth

By default Windows XP has Path MTU detection enabled

and that work very well, until somone using Dr:Tcp or TCP optimizer and force a MTU of 1500....... That can mess up alot

so ppl, do not change the MTU, leave it at Default, windows will find it for ya....

VanBuren :)
