reformatting my PC cannot be my option... especially right now coz im doing my thesis book... hehehe! anyway latest results of my consistently inconsistent speed... (w/ flushed dns and cache cleared...)

there's a way around that. you can simply partition your hd(if you haven't already) and save all your needed data on the spare partition. then you can format the partition with the windows installation. if you're going to partition your hd, i recommend using gparted.

don't worry, you will learn in time. since the common student's use of a computer isn't much technical, there's little chance that you can mess up. just remember this few things.

1. make sure you have decent security programs installed(anti-virus, anti-spyware,firewall..)

2. be careful in browsing sites that are most likely to have viruses and spywares

  (cough..porn sites..cough)

3. be careful when dealing with the registry and other system files. read descriptions and make sure you know what you're doing

4. and most importantly, always have a backup.

Firefox is more safer than browsing with IE, I only run KAS when i copy from memory sticks and files from cd's just to make sure theres no virus infection!

But Firefox and Spywareblaster will do!

@Azgauth: I Don't think so ive been using firefox quite some time and at 1st i tested it with 5 different anti-viruses and trojan detectors maybe he didnt got his firefox from the official website or maybe he used some unsigned add ons!

who's your source, microsoft? anyway, yes, although it is more secure than IE, firefox is also most likely to get attacked by viruses. viruses and other malicious content on the internet are always evolving, that's why there is no program that you could call the "ultimate" in security. that's why software companies always make updates for their programs.

or did u update to the latest firefox release? maybe hes using firefox but an old release cause its security patches is old also if your using those old ones it can be a reason why certain viruses can get inside your pc

there's no such thing as a safe browser.

viruses, trojans, spywares, adwares, even bugs will always be there since programs to kill or control them will be marketed.

it's always an equilibrium! know what i mean?

but when I check my IP address on cmd /ipconfig

it says 192.168.***.**

why is that?

yes we understand. it's good you replaced your IP addresses with asterisks for security purposes.

here's my interpretation:

1) that 125.60.***.*** is the assigned IP address of smartbro in your area or your proxy server (in case you use one).

Every device connected to the public Internet is assigned a unique number known as an Internet Protocol (IP) address. IP addresses consist of four numbers separated by periods (also called a 'dotted-quad') and look something like 127.0.0.1.

Since these numbers are usually assigned to internet service providers within region-based blocks, an IP address can often be used to identify the region or country from which a computer is connecting to the Internet. An IP address can sometimes be used to show the user's general location.

2) while that 192.168.***.** you are referring to is the logical address of your network adapter or what we popularly know as LAN Card.

The IP address uniquely identifies computers on a network. An IP address can be private, for use on a LAN, or public, for use on the Internet or other WAN.

IP addresses can be determined statically (assigned to a computer by a system administrator) or dynamically (assigned by another device on the network on demand).

Yep.. In short. That would probably the IP Address of the base station where you are homed...
