A Few Suggestions:

Newegg and Tiger Direct Customers have rated that processor  one of  the worst made processor by AMD since the Athlon XP series by reviews.

-- Uses too much electricity compared to the lower 5600+   uses 120 watts compared to 90 or lower with the 5600+

--  Gets too F'g  hot even with the best heatsink and like 5 fans in your computer

-- One customer said it was so hot that the bottom of the heatsink melted and caused his    processor to be stuck to the heatsink.

--- Not in the range of overclocking. Better off with the 5600+

I know its like 0.2 GHz lower than the 6000+     but work with the 5600+ to see what you get out of that   or go with the FX series of processors.

Here is one review from Newegg:  Dated July 29th, 2007

Pros: very fast, large memory cache, easy on the wallet.

Cons: i have installed many cpu chips before and have never had a problem w/them 'welding" to the heat sink. well now i have! i pulled my heat sink off today just to find out my chip came out w/it. so yes, maybe the chip is nice, but the heat sink included w/the chip is certainly faulty. but unless u want to void the warranty, you have to use the included faulty heat sink. go figure:

However,  AMD just released the AMD Athlon 64 X2  6400+  3.2 GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103191.  Its a little pricy at $279  but wait till November and it will be less than $200

If this is something you have to have go for it, it will be a nice upgrade. But if you can wait a few more months, AMD is suppose to have some new stuff coming around, and intel has there 45nm stuff coming out starting in November, so all of the current stuff will probably drop in price so AMD will most likely drop there prices.

every review i've ever read about this processor is fine, except some where people have poor cooling in their cases....and i know for a fact i have good cooling....especially since my pc heat sensor says its only around 85-90 farenheit....i have a HUGE side air vent for the cpu and 3x 120mm fans for exhaust, intake, and blowing hot air from the graphics card.

i might get the 5600+ since it is probably cheaper....but i wanted that for this gaming machine. (yes tommie i have a gaming machine.)

i guess the 2.8ghz is alot better than my single core 2.4ghz anyhow.

btw, since i am running xp pro OEM will i have to rebuy a windows key or something since im changing the cpu?

SST, same story every month. Something new is always arond the corner.

No offense Dlewis. just an opinion.

Get what you want when you want at the price you want.

nowdays pretty much any time is good time to upgrade.....new technologies are coming out every month - i wouldn't bother waiting at all because like tommie said, same story every month....

I agree with both of yall. To me if the price looks right ill buy it :smile2:

Ouch, but you also do not have to mess with the city. So it's worth it.  :grin2:
