Of course, I wasn't sure what to do with it so that didn't help. I am running Windows XP. My PC was new in January and it has no viruses or spyware. I use Norton to check it regularly and I also run Spybot S&D AND Ad-Aware almost daily. I am starting to wonder whether or not my wildblue was actually upgraded because it doesn't seem that way. I upgraded in hopes of hooking up Vonage but so far I have not been able to successfully call anyone. I can hear them but they can't hear me. Siryak Posted August 24, 2007 CID Share Posted August 24, 2007 Yah Vonage is never going to give you satisfactory performance. I tried it back before the latency got so bad and it wasn't acceptable then. Now the latency is 2-3x as high and it probably wont work at all as you have already experienced. You might try reseting your modem and see if that helps with the speed. It looks like you are still provisioned on the Value Pack. If that doesn't work call them up and get them to do it again. I unplugged it overnight last night and it took me 3 hours to connect this morning. I canceled the Vonage and am keeping the home phone. My internet is still lagging really bad though. I've had Wildblue (through Dish Network)since April and it's given me trouble ever since day one. I had them out 2 days ago and they moved my dish because they thought my TV dish was blocking my signal and I thought that would fix it. I called them and they won't come out again unless I pay them $59. The modem shows I am connected but half the time I get error messages while trying to load web pages. Sometimes I think I was better off with dial-up. When I called to cancel the Vonage they told me that they thought I might have a bad modem but so far I've had no luck getting Wildblue (Dish Network) to fix it. Siryak Posted August 24, 2007 CID Share Posted August 24, 2007 The only way to reset it is to unplug it and plug it back in. But if you are getting error messages then your install IS NOT RIGHT! Make them come out and fix it! If they refuse to try contact Wildblue directly. If that doesn't work then I would go to the BBB. Whatever you do, do not accept a sub par install, because it will be nothing but trouble! Although I am also not sure the error messages are because of your install. Has it been doing that since the beginning or just here lately? Wildblue has been having some trouble these past few weeks on their end. Try doing this for me. Go to Start -- Run -- Type: cmd -- Press ok -- In the window that comes up type: ping google.com -n 50 -- hit enter -- After that is done right click and hit select all -- While all of that is highlighted press ctrl C(Push these buttons both at the same time) -- Then come back here and paste the results. I have had satellite for internet since 1999 and with all the reading and research I have done you can use Vonage, but not as a home subscriber. You would need to get rid of the small Wildblue system and go to a V-sat which would probably have a 1.2 meter dish or bigger and a 3watt transmitter or bigger. You would wind up paying at least $179/month for the smallest account but you could use VOIP. This larger system would give you the speed needed to work but not as well as cable or DSL. When Wildblue has trouble on their end the second light on my modem either goes off or blinks so I know it's them but most of the time the lights stay on and I still can't connect. No, The only 2 around here that have it are Nextel/Sprint and Verizon and I called them both months ago. They told me that I could get it but the towers were not very close so it would be probably no faster than dial up. As of now my cell phone (Nextel) gets a crappy signal here so I can hardly use it from home. Verizon is a little better but my family all has Nextel so to save $$ I switched to Nextel. I know, but Ka Band tends to get slightly better pings, and then it has that on board switching system. The biggest thing though is it will at least take a little while for it to get congested like their satellites are now. Also the Ka band equipment *might* be cheaper. If you have your modem plugged into a surge protector, bypass it immediately. They found out ***MONTHS*** ago that surge protectors were blocking too much of the electrical current and that with the secondary surge protector that ***COMES WITH THE MODEM***, the modem cannot accurately and consistantly convert the satellite signal to a useable internet signal for your computer. Also, if you have WildBlue through DishNetwork, you should still have a 90-day warrenty. If you don't, call them and ask to speak with a supervisor. Siryak is right, you should not have to suffer for their incompetancy with inferior installations and idiot techs who don't know how to do their job. Also, one other thing. If you're still getting those speeds, check your bandwidth usage at dishmail.net and see if you're over on your thresholds. That will cause significant speed issues. In the contract, it's called the Fair Access Policy, and it's a joke what they can get away with as threshold limits. Only able to download 7.5G in one month??? I can do that in one day with my music files. Honestly, it makes you wonder what DishNetwork was doing when they signed this contract to partner with Wildblue. And look at it this way.
