mjsred-  If you have had it for 2.5 weeks you have 1.5 weeks left on your 30 day trial.

Everybody gets a 30 day trial!

Ask them to put your account on hold and not start the 30 day trial until you have some decent upload speeds that will allow you to surf the web as fast as a dial up.  That is not asking to much.

You should also be credited at least $3.33 per day from the install date until your upload speeds are acceptable,  at least 20 Kbps??. Then start the 30 day trial.  Do not settle for less!

guys its eveyone, you are not going to get thoes speeds they advertise.  Im on SatMex5 and getting the same upload speeds as most people here (other than the ones that are getting 0, which is unnacctable and they would need to contact support for that issue):

:::.. Upload Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 23 Kbps about 0 Mbps (tested with 97 KB)

Upload Speed is:: 3 KB/s

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Test Time:: Thu Feb 03 2005 17:36:34 GMT-0800 (Pacific Standard Time)

Bottom Line:: 0X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 341.33 sec

LLLL-  my speed is  4 Kbps,  yours is 23 Kbps!  That is not the same speed.

I bet you can load a web page much faster with 23 Kbps then I can with 4 Kbps.  Not the same. I do not know for sure but I think I would be happy with 23 Kbps.  I have never had it over 5 Kbps in the 6 days I have had this POS!

Hi everyone,

Like many others here, I'm new to satellite access (had both cable and DSL in past, sob!), have a DW6000 wireless networked to 2 notebooks, a Dell & Gateway (both XP boxes) and hard wired to an old Winbook running Windows 98. I'm also in northern CA, not far from real DSL access, just far enough out not to be able to get it. Best dialup access I can get here is 28.8. Download speeds vary greatly between machines, have enabled TCP Optimizer per Rev, but have not seen drastic improvement. Recent states on the Gateway, which is by far the fastest:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 941 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 748 KB)

Download Speed is:: 115 KB/s

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Test Time:: Thu Feb 3 22:08:34 PST 2005

Bottom Line:: 17X faster than 56K 1MB download in 8.9 sec

Upload is pathetic when I can get the test to work at all:

:::.. Upload Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 8 Kbps about 0 Mbps (tested with 97 KB)

Upload Speed is:: 1 KB/s

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Test Time:: Thu Feb 3 22:12:12 PST 2005

Bottom Line:: 0X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 1024 sec

I think Direcway has some false advertising going on, they don't mention the ridiculous upload at all, at least I couldn't find it. Except for later in the evening, surfing is next to impossible. Data may move fairly fast, but waiting 30 seconds or longer per page to move it does't equal speed. I lug the Dell to work and dialup via SBC at 50.6, and it's much faster than DW for basic surfing, except for moving large files via Direcway. I must confess, DW moves large files down pretty well when it's working. Is it worth the bucks? I don't think so - gonna try and get Direcway to extend the 30 day trial to sort out the Dell's problems (it used to scream on Yahoo DSL before I moved to the sticks) and speed up the surfing, especially the upload, if not, it's going back. Oh yea, if anyone's concerned about offshoring, the first layer help reps are in India. Anyone out there really happy with the DW6000? :?

How do I tell which satellite I'm on?

Longitude says 87 West?

Thanks,

Jack

For Direcway 4020/6000 Users

To find your satellite on a DW6000 or a DW4020 you need to open the user interface.

1. If you have your browser set to use the DW6000/4020 proxy, you need to list the user interface as an exception first. In IE go to Tools => Internet Options => Connections => Lan Settings. If "Use a Proxy Server for your LAN" is checked, then click on "Advanced". In the "Exceptions" Box, enter 192.168.0.1 Press "OK" three times.

2. In your browser enter "http://192.168.0.1" (without the quotes) as the URL. This should open the interface. Click on the "System Information" button. You will find the satellite longitude and frequency on that page.

Q: Satellite locations, transponders & frequencies in use (#2058)

A: In the Sat forum you see many posts about a certain transponder and optimum settings for them. Currently DirecPC (DirecWay) has 4 transponders in use on the Galaxy 11 (G11) satellite at 91 degrees west longitude, 9 on Satmex5 (SM5)at 116.8 (117) degrees west and 7 on Galaxy4R (G4R) at 99 degrees W.

Galaxy 3C (G3C) at 95 degrees west and SatMex 5 at 116.8 degrees west all have 1 to 9 transponders in use for broadband internet. AOL+ also has customers on Satmex5 and G4R at 99 degrees W.

AMC1, formerly GE1, at 103 degrees west was also a "Classic" gray dish bird with 1 transponder, but was discontinued in Oct. 2002.

The frequencies we refer to in our posts are actually the down-converted (IF) frequencies coming down our coax after being converted in the LNB at the dish. The satellite frequencies transmitted and received are much higher and not easily routed to and from your sat modems.

You will find many DSLR members have added the down-converted frequencies to their signatures as well for ease of passing along our setup information.

Specifically, the transponders in use on each satellite are:

Galaxy 11 (91

Please be careful when running this cross pol test. If you fail and can not pass you will not be able to get back on line until you get lucky and pass or an installer has come out to re point your dish. I do not advise running this if you are not exactly sure of the consequences. It is possible to have a cross pole out of Wacke and still be on-line. I had that very issue before changing birds. Although I had never run the cross pole test.
