but for the last few days, the internet has been flickering in and out, so i called them and after a long battle about them trying to blame it on my router, they finally realized that the tower needed equipment replaced. So now the internet is working again, all fine, xbox live can sign in, but cant play any online games. the error message depends on the game, but usually its something like "cannot connect to host". I have a Dlink  WBR-2310, the xbox is hardwired, and i just updated the firmware on the router from 1.02 to 1.04, it might be the router, but i can't seem to find an option in the menu that would hinder xbox live useless...thanks for your help

Hello, and welcome to the forum, saunders73!

This is what I would try if I had your problem.

1.  Get the IP Address of your XBOX and then on a computer go to http://192.168.0.1 this will bring you to your router.

2. You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is blank. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

3. Click the Advanced button near the top of the page.

4. Click PORT FORWARDING

5. Xbox Live requires you to forward the 88,3074 ports. Enter those into the port forward menu (of course name it like XBL1)

6. then enter 3074 in another box and hit save!

ALL DONE =) please give feedback, i'm pretty sure that is going to work

any questions.. please ask

THANKS!!! Tim Pawlak

The Xbox live test says i have an open NAT, and heres the settings i put in the router page

Is that right? and it made me specify a ip adress for the console, but depending on how many computers are on the network that ip could be different...any way to fix that? and could it be a problem on there end?
