New Server = Slower Speeds Reported

Recommended Posts

Before the new server was installed, testmy.net routinely reported my computer's download speed to be roughly 6.7 to 7.0 Mbps.  Since the server's installation, my computer's download speeds are frequently reported to be much less than before.  However, Speakeasy and Speedtest continue to report speeds above 7 Mbps.  So, why is testmy.net frequently reporting speeds much lower than it did before the server change?

Yes!  In fact, the problem appears to be getting worse.

Not only does it appear to be getting worse, it IS getting worse.  :knuppel2:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Download Connection is:: 531 Kbps about 0.5 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

Download Speed is:: 65 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Main)

Test Time:: 2008/03/12 - 7:27am

Bottom Line:: 9X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 15.75 sec

Tested from a 2992 kB file and took 46.172 seconds to complete

Download Diagnosis:: May need help : running at only 10.83 % of your hosts average (mindspring.com)

D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-C6NH25VO0

User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; InfoPath.2) [!]

I don't even bother with the larger tests anymore as they are far too time consuming to run.

I don't trust the test at speedtest.net because it shows almost twice my advertised speed, but dslreports, which has always been consistent for me, still shows between 4.5 & 5 megs to a busy server over 250 miles from me. The one here at TMN is supposed to be in my back yard. Well, in the same city, anyway.

What the hell is going on here??

I'm in Chicago suburbs and have Comcast. In the morning I test around 8Bps by midmorning is under 3Bps. I hope the new server can help this ,as I love this site. I WAS very consistent before.

I am not sure what's going on with the TMN. Sometimes, I get higher speeds but lately, my speed registers like below 500 Kbps. And these results are very inconsistent to some of my speed test sites. I have bench marks for each test sites and they are still pretty consistent. After this new server, the TMN test results are quite not consitent.

And one thing, I got this message just an hour before I got into this section:

Connection Problems

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

And sometimes, I get a php error when I run the test. Is the installation to the new server not done yet? Thanks a lot. By the way, this is still a great site though.

when the new server is online u will see a message in the header on the home page that will say some thing like "if you can see this message you are on the new server" or something to that effect...
