The American Dream

This should be interesting to see what people from the USA, as well as the rest of the world think, and how you perceive the American dream.

Me, I see it as being an antrapreunure, making something that you want to do, or provide, and making a life for yourself as well as a gateway for others to tread in your wake to build upon each others thoughts and ideas in turn , doing what we want, and being who we are meant to be, ourselves.

Elaborate..........

"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Happiness. Freedom. Real freedom, something not many know on this planet. Americans are included in that statement. Its really too bad more people from around the world dont know main street Americans. The type that will give the shirt off their back and dont care to wage wars for the most part.

as a European , I think that was the dream , and I guess a lot of Mexicans still see it that way , but I think Europeans see it a bit different now , more as the dream that lost it's way , totally submerged in pure commercialism , I did post a year back that the special relationship between the UK and the USA was under threat,

and I was sad about that ,l and yes I still am , but the UK is now hopping into bed with Europe, more each day , and Amerioca seems to get more isolated each day ,

:grin2: Every man woman and child deserves to be happy. You would think with man being on earth for as long as we have a better conflict resolution procedure could have been devised. You know the whole "Kill everyone" system we use now is a little dated.

Kinda leads you to believe there's other powers at work here, for much larger reasons than we will know for many years, if ever.

Come on, people. We all know the American dream means that you san come to this country (legally or otherwise) and expect everyone here to conform to YOUR culture and have to learn to speak YOUR language. It means you have the right to wear t-shirts proudly proclaiming that you were "HECHO EN MEXICO". Living the American dream means that you can be a "hyphenated American" and let everyone know in no uncertain terms where your loyalty lies. MEXICAN-American, AFRICAN-American, ASIAN-American, ITALIAN-American, et al. Make no mistake about it. Being American is secondary to us and don't you forget it because we most definitely will not!!  :tickedoff:

Calm down there man.  :grin2: Your entitled to your opinion, but be careful with the race issues. We all know the road that can lead down and you seem unusually wound up today. You alright?

Oh, I'm fine. I'm just tired of the BS we have to put up with. This is America, dammit!! If you want to live here, learn to be an American like my grandparents did when the came here from Europe. They didn't refer to themselves as Italian-Americans because they came here to be Americans, plain and simple. The way it should be for every immigrant to this country.

My comments weren't intended to be racist, BTW, and I apologize if they were taken that way. I'm just wondering why people want to have so much pride in a country and culture they left to come to this one.  :uglystupid2:

I understand exactly what you meant man. One of the founding fathers actually said something along the lines of "any man should be able to come to America but he should not have a hyphenated name. He will be American. Not African-American or Mexican-American." My quote is WAY off but it is close in nature. I know what you mean, I hope for a day when we are all just human. No more titles needed than that really. IMHO.  :grin2:

I see you have a good grasp on this, much more than many others do, you were not being " racist" at term that has come to mean nearly anything you want it to mean anymore.  :haha:

And yea, if you reside here, you are an AMERICAN!  Thats what you came here for , right?  So play the part, make something more of your self, like millions others, don't make it what you ran from, geeze . Am i right er am I right.

The way i look at is they are proud of their country but somtimes the leadership becomes corrupt, which in turn can cause the country and culture to morph around that and sometimes the only option you have is to get out,

It works this way Roco. A few centuries ago a few guys decided to take a vacation across that pond. And we never came back. So what do you figure we found? Yep happiness. So grab your bro's and hop the hell over here. Let them have the idland anyway. And we need more caucasions here anyway. To help with the balance of things.  :haha:

Forget the tea party and come aboard for real.

Welcome to the USA, but you may be required to learn English and to drive on the"RIGHT" side of the road.  :2funny:

My point exactly. My grandparents left their homeland to come to America in search of a better life. Not to try and turn this country into what they left behind.

Hey guys , I think to say the "American dream " , tends to isolate America , we are all world citizens first and formost , and untill we can sort that out ,our national dreams will have to wait ,

no man or nation can be an island alone ,

Tommie , all you got a few centuaries ago was the Brit rejects , who couldent take the pace over here , Australia got our criminals ,

Dang, look at them both now, 2 great nations IMHO, :icon_thumright:

Bro ,I think America isn't ready for me just yet ,

Shugs "any man should be able to come to America but he should not have a hyphenated name. ? well thats me done for , as my entire family has ,

Imagine that, millions of people traverse the earth to come to a place that is seen as isolated? I don't think so. Besides, there are millions here who want just that, to be isolationists.

I'm all for sending the SOB's that can't speak English (American) back to where they come from. Shoot on sight the immigrants that post there flags in public from their Home Lands. If their Home Lands are that special and great. Go back your not wanted!

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all.

We have room for but one flag, the American flag ... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

This is it. Thanks man. I guess I was wrong about it being a founding father.
