Alright all of a sudden about 8 hours ago my brothers computer could no longer acquire a IP address. All that he did was restart and boom couldn't get another one.I am using a D-Link Gamer lounge router{Set for DHCP} and have not had any problems till now,His is the only one that will not acquire one.Sooo I was wondering if any of you fine folk could remedy this for me all give all information needed or at least try to just tell me what you need.

Go to the command prompt (start > run > cmd )  type ipconfig/release , than ipconfig/flushdns .

Than open your network connections and go to your present LAN card and disable it.

Than right click on " my computer" and go to properties.

Go to device manager and find your network card and re-enable it.

Wait about 20 seconds than go to the command prompt again and type ipconfig/renew.

Give that a shot. Thats what i have to do daily, something wrong with vista and their DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToggle bullshit...

Anywho hope that helps  :!:

Love the way people are so quick to blame Vista.  I have had Vista for a little over a year on my laptop.  I connect to various wireless and wired networks throughout the day.  I have never had a problem getting an IP address that was a Vista problem.  Our work network has a Sonic firewall that will occasionally block laptops from connecting.  A quick reboot and all is well.  Not saying Vista does not have problems.

The arguments these days against Vista are the exact samething people had against XP then again with XP SP2 when it arrived.

If the above does not work try a system restore, he may have unknowingly downloaded something that is interferring with the network card or protocol stacks.  Also make sure all of windows updates are done and the hardware drivers are update.

.s1 I just tried would you told me and it still cannot acquire =/ thank you though

wknight40 I already tried a system restore to about 3 days ago when everything was great to no avail,Thank you for the suggestion though

dlewis23 I have tried to manually set the ip and dns but always gives me a page load error

192.168.0.7

255.255.255.0

Then I use our actual IP I tried did not work and I used 192.168.0.1 also did not work

For DNS I used the ones I saw in the details box on the network connection or just tried 192.168.0.1 again none worked. Thank you though

I play alot of games, and the games I play require performance, fast pace FPS, Vista has never given me the chance to play 'good' on it. Always lagging video frames, even with tweaked drivers. I've just never liked gaming on Vista, other than gaming it's one of the best operating systems I've owned, I have home basic, and ultimate, right now all 3 of my systems are running windows xp professional 32-bit. I'm waiting for some kind of performance from vista, maybe a few service packs or whatever they have to do.

I just like having the performance that Windows XP offers. I'm waiting for a second 8800GTS so that I'll be running SLI, need this then most likely I'll be running Vista one beat the shits 8800gts just doesn't suffice for me in Vista.

Well I tried the Open DNS and still refuses to acquire a address automatically then I tried to make a static on it using the Open DNS,Gives me a connected but no web pages load

192.168.0.2

255.255.255.0

Tried My IP and 192.168.0.1 for default gateway still no luck. =/ Maybe he is just doomed. :sad3:
