Help, please! :) My connection, low as it is already, works really lame :(( Low and variable download speeds, no network activity etc. BTW, I'm from Europe...

OS: win XP sp1

Cable internet, 64kbs (at least that's what my ISP told me, not sure about cable/isdn :P)

Installed Cablenut - Cable & DSL 64 64 settings applied

hey arlechinu and welcome to the forum :)

that traceroute dosent look good

sign up here and make a linequality test http://www.dslreports.com/tools

disable firewall during test, or config it to allow ICMP traffic

"Line Packet Loss Testing

Packet loss tests on your line, including identification of any problem routers en-route to you.."

its free

when you see result, copy URL adress and paste it here so we can see it

yea these looks really bad

Email these links to your ISP and let them fix the packetloss

when they fixed it, come back here and we can tweak your connection

good luck

allright... here's the reply i got from my isp...

quote:

"i took a look at those links too. i think you should do more research before you claim stuff like that. first of all lots of packets are blocked by the server at those tests. seconda of all, usa is quite a long way from here, it is normal you should have a larger ping"

dunno, i'm not a networking expert, but this sounds like BS :P can anyone here with some more experience with these things help me out? please... is there any truth in what he's saying or is he simply stupid? :D help me out with a reply for this guy :)

thanx!

there is a routing issue between your ISP and node 9 and 10 and that is something your ISP should be aware of...

make a new traceroute now and lets see if it changed

First its the 4th hop problem, then the 7th. Im beginning to think its not the hops at all.  Meaning, you have somethign drawing from your overall upload bandwidth which causes ping spikes  at random times. Have you checked for viruses or spyware or ANY other programs that could be drawing from your bandwidth?

heres an example.
