Help with spiking connection

hey, for some reason ive noticed my connection spikes randomly, i havent figured out when and why but it seems to do it in the most unexpected times. like at 7:30 in the morning. This is hte first time it started to do this again in quite a while but its very annoying.

normally i cap at like 4.9-5.2 .. this is just sad

ill be in a counter strike game and it seems like my connection just turns off so i have to wait like 10 seconds for me being able to move. and when it does let me move HEADSHOT and its not just playing cs everything's slow.

its like i jump from dial up to cable and back and then it shuts off .. and then back to dial up lol.. im so confused

May not be the connection itself. Are you on a router?  I know sometimes routers will cause the most unsightly lag. Also what are your system specs? 

Make a tracert top testmy.net ( start > run > cmd > tracert testmy.net )

You can also try scanning for spyware and viruses as well, never know.

make sure the wiring from the cable modem to your computer is free of kinks

and tears, that will murder a connection quickly.

[ also on a side note , on cs make sure you have done these steps to insure the best gameplay]

the connections seem fine ive used em for a long time never had any problem until these unexpected spikes.

its a little under what i normally get but its fine for me.

like i said before its random i just got done playing some Css and i was pinging at like 60 so it makes no sense to me. I think there are just some certain times in my area the connection gets real slow and im always on it when it happens

250000 thats alot if its Byte/ second like quake 3 and UT2003 and 2004 using, thats 250 KB/s = 2 Mbps

i dont play CS, so maybe that engine using bit/ second i dunno

now im at 4.8

well for some reason with steam if you try to put your actual connection rate in it brings it back to 14.4 k ... the only thing that sticks is leaving it alone or 250000 O_o..

for the tracert just right click > select all , then hit enter.

hop 20 might block ICMP traffic
