extraction failure

I keep getting an "unknown failure" when I try to extract updated program anti-virus files. One says possibly exceeded memory...another just says unknown reason.  I get about 50% through the process and it bombs.  This happens with AVG and Avast.  Very small programs seem to extract OK.  I have 1GB of memory and very little running so I could not really be out of memory.  Any ideas?

Like you said memory would be my first thought.

Just something that rings a bell, maybe try and raise your page file, I don't remember what this had to do with extraction, but I had an issue somewhat like this once and that fixed it. I would think also whatever program your useing to extract, if you can try 7Zip instead.

Same here! Raised the page file and it stoped.

I was reading about this and what I should have said was set it to  "let windows choose size" or whatever it says, but then you have to watch for severe fragmentation, the page file will ony expand when it's set amount of virtual memory is reached, ( it says the default set pagefile allocation is 150% of the physical memory) ......blah blah blah

And it has to reach 250% in order to expand .......so I would open her up, and see what happens.

So try that  :haha:
