VERIZON BROADBAND USING UM175 WIRELESS MODEM

OK, dumped hughesnet....

Now trying this Verizon broadband usb adapter.  its the UM175.  I think its a wireless modem.

is this what some of you have?  I noticed it said EVDO, revision A.

i'm getting about 3 bars out of 4. but because of where I'm at.  I top out at about 512Kbps.

There were several "towers" where I could "dial-in" at (or connect).

Would another tower in the same range distance make me get a better connection?

I have a TON of questions about this........Anyone else have this wireless broadband plan using the UM175 usb adapter?

If it is EVDO rev A you may need an antenae to draw the signal better. I have to to use it in my basement. And welcome aboard the satelite train great escape.

My antenae is on a pole, and I run a cable into the basement much like cable. And the great part is if you like using the computer on the fly its fully mobile. No I don't, but its always available if I wanted to.  :grin2:

youre antenna is in the basement?????  I would have figured the higher the better?

I did see some gain antennas online.

Strange though, when I use it on my notebook pc, I get Broadband Rev a.

if I set it up on my desktop, I get "National Access" which is about 133K.

too weird.

When I left bestBuy, I had a 4 bar signal, and speed was about 1.3mbps.

Now,i'm at home 40 miles away, I get about 512Kbps download.

Know anything about this 5gb cap?  I read people have been terminated for going over it . . ..

Yes, broadband on demand on your laptop[ is pretty neat, but damn if I could type on a laptop all day! (never used that backspace so much!  :2funny: :2funny:

Its on a pole outside and a cable runs the signal into the basement. I have a yaggi and a truckers antenae. I switch from time to time. But the truckers should be enough really.

Looking better and better.  Requires alot of tweaking with the antenna, and find the optimum place.

Getting 4 bars so far!

Comes and goes. but that's all based off signal quality.

You can get into the Diag screens on a UM175 modem by pressing "CRTL-D"

the password is "diagvzw".

you can see detailed information on signal strength, etc.  I've read other tweaks in forums, and tried a few, that actually did work (including modifying the modem setting directly).

Download :: 849 Kbps or 0.85 Mbps (104 kB/s)

Satellite, naw, never again (internet that is)....

This wireless broadband so far is better than I expected.

This morning I was kinda ticked because I kept getting connected to "NATIONAL ACCESS", instead of

BROADBAND ACCESS (REV A)

Something about the HDR RSSI must be locked, the EC/IO must be this and that, I sorta tweaked all of that with notes

I'd found on ther forums.  Since I FINALLY locked into a good signal (card has 10 foot usb extension), I have been

at FOUR bars all day long

HDR (evdo rev a) locks in about 73 (90 starts loosing signal), EC/IO is holding about 2 (up to 6 is ok).

Been getting about 1mbps consistently.

Got 30 days to try it out.  We'll see.

The cost is $47.99 a month.

I will have to conform to the 5gb cap (that means limiting speed tests).  I still like to watch a few videos in there too.
