I do not have the foggiest about internet connection, just that I know my pc is way too slow. So would appreciate it if anyone could shed any light on what my speed should be. I subscribe to Virgin Media on the XL (20mb).

I ran a speed test and these were my results

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Download Connection is:: 915 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 1024 kB)

Download Speed is:: 112 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Main)

Test Time:: 2009/07/24 - 6:29pm

Bottom Line:: 16X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 9.14 sec

Tested from a 1024 kB file and took 9.172 seconds to complete

Download Diagnosis:: May need help : running at only 31.65 % of your hosts average (co.uk)

D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-O3RULH2FY

User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; GTB5; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) [!]

Is this roughly right.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards

Thanks monsnet2k8. Updated Network Drives and done a full scan. Having to reboot now to check out difference. Thanks for the time. Will also give the moving of the aerial a go to. Cheers

From what I see here , if you had there 20MB connection, you would not have an arial, you would be on there fiber optics network. My guess is that you have a 2MB connection.

From what I see they do not have a 2MB, but they do have the 20MB.

I'm on virgin cable and had a similar problem it turned out to be the moden (the silver one)

if you have this modem then contact virgin and tell them you have a speed issue and that you have rebuilt your OS and that it is up to date with all drivers and AV / firewall software

they will try this , that , and the other but persist and they will send a new modem  (the silver one does not seem compatible with there new system updates)

they have upgraded the 2Mb and 4Mb lines they use to have to a 10Mb

when you get the new one you need to Phone again and give them the MAC address (on the bottom of modem) then you will be able to surf again

when done and back online come here and test speed

Hold on guys I think Virgin media is a UK ISP only ?,

if so sure you can get Virgin M. by either ADSL down the phone line ,or by Fibre optic cable ,

cable is much faster "normaly " , ADSL is affected by so many factors , line lengh, line quality. noise on the line (srn),

deviloxo the 20 Mb looks like cable , and yes you are running very slow , but it might be your wireless set up , can you try and connect directly  to the modem /router ? just to clear up that point ,and if so test again ,

BTW, my daughter is on Virgin Media , fibre optic cable . for the phone , TV ,and broad band ,

although her  Broadband is limited to 2Mb ,  ( price ) she hits the 2Mb with no prob ,
