CableNoob : Just have your mom call tech support to find out your caps .Don't just guess that you have the fastest speed they offer.

Van Buren I tried the test at  http://speedtest.cogeco.net/ heres is the url if it works .

But I bet thats not my correct upload speed. This type test always has my upload too fast.

Umm, I think he got the right one.. because my mom hates slowness.. and she's anti-computer enough as it is.. And we're paying 46$ a month for it.. wich is the same price as that

2. EastLink's introductory offer of $9.95 per month plus taxes for the first three months of service with Free Professional Installation is available only to first time EastLink residential High Speed Internet customers. Billing of $44.95 per month plus taxes or less with an EastLink Bundle will apply after the first three months of services.

with taxes that would be about right...

follow all these steps and i will make you a custom tweakfile  ;)

1. What OS are you running, ex win 98, win xp, if you have XP make sure you have SP2 installed! Also download the p2p fix for SP2 here https://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1497

If you have a MAC try this program http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12591

2. What service do you have, what is the advertised speed for download/upload.

3. What tweakprograms you already got installed, and run this test http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks  copy and paste result URL  adress in your post!

4. What speed do you have against www.testmy.net and http://nitro.ucsc.edu/  also make a tracert, go to start-run type command and hit enter, type tracert testmy.net and hit enter, right click copy all and paste it in your post.

5. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.

6. Open Internet Explorer and select tools - internet options - connections -

LAN settings, make sure nothing there is checked.

7. Connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it depend on the ISP service unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL. If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

8. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 30 seconds.

9. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot http://beam.to/spybotsd and Ad Aware http://www.lavasoft.com/support/download to remove any spyware

10. ZoneAlarm firewall has known problems with dropping speed, i suggest to uninstall it and compare speed

11. Install Outpost Firewall http://www.agnitum.com or Sygate Firewall http://www.sygate.com/

12. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one, AVG is great http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

13. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates

14. Download and run CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/

15. download and install Cablenut 4.08 and Vanburens cablenut settings version 5 here https://testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1013.0;id=959  unzip settings to C:ProgramCablenut
