We only have one other computer and its only about 12 feet away!! Can I take the easy way out and just buy a long USB cble??? Will the long cable reduce the speed quality at all?? USB should work up to 50-60 feet I would think......however if you can use your ethernet ports instead it would be faster...I've used one of those 100ft and had no problems.... deerkill10 Posted February 25, 2005 CID Share Posted February 25, 2005 I ve been told that usb cables loose there strenght after 15 feet . I would stay away from d-way if you have the choice. But if your like me and dont have any choices except dialup, they are alot faster on download speeds and a little faster on uploads. I use my dw 4000 to network 5 computers. If I were you I would cancel my contract with d-way now look on ebay for a dw4000 and save your self hundreds with faster connection speeds.. It is a proven fact the dw4000 connects almost a meg faster than the dw6000. configuring a network is alittle harder but well worth it. We were so used to Comcast 3000/254 that when we moved to the country, I guess I've just been wanting it back!! Actually, our dial up is only slow for my pogo game site, but once I'm in, its fine, and...ahem...alittle slow on my hubbys picture sites, if you know what I mean!!! If the difference isn't that appreciable, its not worht what we'll be paying!! I am surprised to find the older dw4000 is better than the 6000! And thanks for all the great advice. I personally do not see a problem with the 6000. If you are concentrating on the speed issue only, you may want to go for the older model. I have 5 pc's connected up to a Netgear wireless router which in turn connects to the DW6000. I also live where "the banjos play" and Dway is the only current broadband.
