So far what I have seen from Mozilla Firebird I love it, and would highly recommend downloading it at http://www.mozilla.org/ ~~ but don't get it in the hopes that it will increase your connection speed, that still going to be limited by your provider -- predninja you are getting awesome speeds... I wish I had a connection that fast, but your OS and browser are only a portion of the reason you get speeds like that, your provider of course comes into the mix and most importantly your CPU, RAM and NIC card plays a part in how fast you are running... now, you running linux frees up a lot of resources so that helps you out a bit, but you are still limited by how fast your provider wants you to be... you are also limited by how fast the test server (in this case, my new kick ass dedicated server... so you have no bottle neck there ) ... again, AWESOME man... two more Mbits and you got yourself a 1 MB/sec (not Mbit... It really varies from test to test but the average is about the same. I usually cross-check this with a large data set (maybe 100MB) as well as other acredited test engines (second opinion, so-to-speak) and find that the results may lead you to believe that your connection is faster than it really is or none consistent at best. I like Mozilla because of it's speed. Most of what I do is either web publishing or online gaming, so speed is important. It was my understanding that COX advertised only 3Mbit on their home accounts (~$50/month). If you think about it, then how could a person get 4,5,6Mbits..? I thought I saw a Moderator who worked for COX. If that being the case then he/she could probably tell us if they 'throttle' the connections. I do know that they send email to 'high' consumers of bandwidth and suggest a commercial account. Something to look out for. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He should only get 3000Kbps MAX... but in some new areas cable companies have been known to up the throttle a little bit when they have bandwidth to spare. This is sort of a marketing scheme so that you will let your friends know about the extream service you have ...
