If it were myself , I'd have a look at the Cisco DPC3000 or along those lines.

That is not exactly the greatest cable modem. While it supports up to 160 Mbps DOCSIS 3, the WAN is only 10/100 Mbps. You want to get one that has a 10/100/1000 WAN. 100 Mbps + tiers are coming shortly from comcast and others already have them.

i have comcast & want to get to 50 mg so what would be the best ???

Ok, but I am taking into consideration the actual speed that the HDD can process the data. Not the entire network.

Besides, he's only looking for 50

100Mbps is about 12MB/s (Average speed for a HDD is 40MB/s to 90MB/s) More platters you have in a drive the faster the drive is.

1000Mbps is about 125MB/s (Only HDDs that can run at that speed and faster are SSD but the 1.5TB 5 platter drive do run at 100MB/s so it's still better to get a modem that has 1000Mbps WAN)
