New Help Frustated Wnidows 7

Hi

I have been testing here for weeks because I think my speeds are not what I have been paying for .I have road runner with Time Warner in Columbia SC and they have been charging me $69.00 extra with the highest package on RR with turbo boost and Digital Phone .After changing modems twice with no change they claim it is right on the money but I think it off because they are mixing up MPS for download and KPS for upload to make it look like they are offering some great speed boost. They use to use 10megs down and 5 megs up and all the test sites reflect then but now everything has gone the other way and I am confused .When I test here sometimes it claims my DL is awesome but it always claims my upload stinks and states I am at 80% below of the normal RR in the country. I got them coming out again Thursday 5th and I need to help with the battle or know if I am totally on off my rocker .

Time Warner site is listed this way: Road Runner Speed Levels with Turbo Speed Boost

10 Mbps down

512 Kbps up

MY Computer is

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Asus p5q Pro Intel E8400 dual chip

2 wd 500gigs in raid 0

8 gigs of rams

Anterous PCI either net controller

Net Gear WGT624 router (tested with and without no change)

scientific atlanta modem 2203c

I have reinstalled windows 7 twice and cleaned everything with antvirus and spyware cleaners with no change

Testmynet DL 12108kbs or 1478kb/s

UP 442kps or 54kb/s

Speakeasy Test Atlanta Server

Last Result:

Download Speed: 15842 kbps (1980.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 491 kbps (61.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

I tried to list everything I can think let me know if other info is need

Hi ,

My first thought are the possible network traffic in georgia , it is insane , so if your going there first , you'll get slowed down by all means. Can you do a tracrt to testmy.net and post it ?

Second , the ISP will always and ONLY test within there local network , as they cannot guarantee anything past this.

Please also keep in mind that some other speed tests will show you running higher then you actually are , so that you smile and come back for more of that good fast feeling.

The ISP tech might check the drop and local port , as well as the integrity of the two. Chances are they have over loaded a node , although they'll never admit to it.

Well I see they have you going to ney york sicy , then masseschutses <<<< geeze i always despised writing that state , I wonder who decided the name.......before heading off to the big pipe , this is not helping you any.

Consider using opendns , this might help a little, maybe, from time to time lol

But until something changes , you'll take this route of maybe of around 2000-3000 miles out of the way before heading anywhere. Nothing that can be done about that.

Maybe do a few more tracrts and see if the results are the same ? or did you already

So I guessing by what your are saying that my speeds are not right for what is being advertised or is it just the test here that is killing me because of the route it takes .

Redo your tracert. You forgot the '.' in the testmy.net address.

That IP is to twcdns.fastsearch.net

DNS hijacking sucks!!!!!!! :tickedoff::knuppel2:

The other flash based sites do not account for 'turbo boost' or 'speed boost'. they will show the final speed, including the boost.

So you pick a larger file(50MB) here to test with and you get an accurate speed test.

The 'sustained speed' is the number that you want to find out from RR. So you know the difference between the boost speed and what is the sustained speed. And for how many MB's the boost lasts, before you get throttled back.

But your upload shows OK for .5Mbps up(512Kbps) and your download on two of your tests is showing the power boost.

Edit: Heres a free bandwidth monitor. You can watch on the graph as the boost ends during your larger speed test here. And you will be able to see the boost speed and then the sustained speed.

you know zalt i looked at the IP twice , and thought something , but it didnt register , good catch !!!!!!!!!!

Like they say, "DNS hijacking is breaking the Internet".

When I do the tracert without the '.' in testmy.net I get an error. I am using OpenDns, but my ISP Telus also does not hack DNS lookups.

(Redo your tracert. You forgot the '.' in the testmy.net address.) I don't understand how to retest to the address but if sounds like I don't need to .I guess I was just confused about the reading being so low on the upload side.

Going by what has been stated I am fine and can cancel my appointment cause all they will do is give another one of those UBEE modems which I think is worst .I would go buy my own and have it here if I knew I could get a good one by Thursday that allows the digital phone too. So I going to just go on with other projects and stop the investigating .

Thanks for the help you guys have been great

BYE THE WAY since chatting here there is now a BUG on my screen and I can't kill it !!!!!!!!! LOL :2funny:

Just do,

tracert 74.54.226.166

(Copy and paste it in).

That is testmy.net IP address. Then we can see if RoadRunner have any bottlenecks in their system.

The crap modems that some ISP's give to users to connect is shameful.

One thing is to find out if RR has a better modem that is not advertised.

My ISP advertises the Gigaset(combo DSL modem and router). It's kinda junky with the ISP's own firmware on it. I, like others, asked and got the Thomson Speedtouch. Since I had issues with the Gigaset. And I now also have a generic world firmware on the SpeedTouch, so I can see my line stats. :smile2:
