So I was a Verizon DSL customer and now they sold to Frontier and I have heard horror stories, of which I am now starting to see. I live in Morgantown and my DSL used to route to Clarksburg some 40 miles away with a ping time of 39Ms (average).

Now frontier have made the change completely and now my details on pings and speed tests show up as Frontier IP addresses as appose to Verizon (as of yesterday), now I am being routed out of Virginia and or Kansas with a ping time of almost 100Ms. I called technical support whom done some ping tests (Average 97Ms) and then ran a speed test and told me my speed was fine, of which it is at 3.3Mbps on a 3.0/0.8 plan, I told him I don't have any issues with my speed its my Latency and he told me they are both the same! LMFAO.

For those whom do not know what Latency is (ping) I shall explain, it is the time your packet takes to leave your machine, reach the destination and return again, a PING... or in laymens Terms.

I can run at 6 MPH and be in my home town in 20 minutes, I can run 6 MPH and be in Clarksburg in 6.5 hours, Same speed but take longer due to distance, Latency.

So anyway, I am being told I can't open a trouble ticket due to this BS, anyone else seen this so far? this happened to me as of Yesterday when they did the change over.

Waiting on a call back from a Manager..... as if that will happen.

Been like this for a while now, will go up and down like a hookers undies at some points.

They put a trouble ticket in for me... AGAIN.

I usually hit around 3.3Mbps to 2.9Mbps

Now this is dumb, it would seem to me the routing (Morgantown WV - Ashburn Virginia!) I am using is the cause of the issue. If you ask me this route is overloaded at peak times.

According to the FCC this is no longer in the broadband range!

According to the FCC, the term “broadband” now means 768Kbps, up from the previous definition of 200Kbps. Under the new definition, “basic broadband” defines download speeds between 768Kbps and 1.5Mbps.

Ok, after another nasty e-mail to Frontiers President! lol... That was yesterday evening I got a call from the GM for this area and they came out today to do tests on my line and said your right, would seem like a routing issue. Anyway he made a call and they re-built the crossovers which may have got messed up during the Verizon to Frontier switch over.

I am no longer showing up as being in Kansas, my Ping times are lower and my speed, well I will have to wait between the hours of 6:00PM and midnight to find out. I hope this is now fixed. Ohh they also brought me a shiny brand new wireless modem :) Lots of pretty lights so I can watch them if my speed goes down I will have something to look at.

Just need some Christmas tree balls on it and I am good. lol

3 Technicians, a GM and still the same, all hardware has been changed out, all 3 techs done the same thing and got the same results.

They are telling me I can go to a higher plan of 6.0 Mbps if I want to pay the extra! <--- HA HA HA. I told the tech "whats the point in doing that if I still bottle neck at peak times?" his face looked like I stole his candy from him.

So I still have my slowdowns, they have no clue why I am affected by this and no one else is, I did explain I know others around here with issues and they informed me they know nothing about it, they tried blaming my equipment, my wires blah blah blah, now they blame network congestion and there is nothing they can do about it....

WOW, what a ride so far..... 4 Engineers at my door, could not find anything wrong, speeds to the Light-span are incredible and I am utilizing some 41% capacity to the Light-span which means I can safely go to 6.0Mbps if I want to.

Last night they found an issue with a switch near where I live and this morning at 4:00AM they changed it out and re-configured the new one, so far today my speeds have not dropped below 3.0Mbps like they should be at..... The test is at 7:00PM tonight and I will then be able to verify if the fix was the issue.

I have been in constant contact with the Operations Guys not far from me, I have been feeding them data including screen grabs of a wonderful software I have been using, and this is no way a plug but very helpful for anyone that may have issues with connectivity or they need to locate where they are bottle necking! I hope this is not a bad thing for me to do but you can search using google for software called VisualRoute2012, 15 days free trial with no restriction! I am going to buy it I like it so much!!!

Anyway, will update later to let you all know whats going on, and if anyone else in Morgantown was having issues with Speed and connectivity! You are very welcome!!!!

I tell yah, what a pain and I hate being an asshole but you have to become one to get anything done anymore.... Them guys would come around and plug there meter in to my line and tell me you have great speeds! then look at you like your a moron or something..... yeah the speeds from my house to the LightSpan are good, but that is all they are seeing..... lol

Anyway, bad switch was the cause of the problem, its fixed so I am happy.....

I had to get to know the guy's running the show , go to the office enough , BS with the ladies up front , talk to the boss man here and there till he asked me my name, small talk trying to keep up with someone that knows how to configure the lasers firing at the head end and determine a bad card in a node from a shell was a real bitch. But after a while we ended up havin a beer here and again on his way home. Next thing I knew I was getting a new port and drop. A leak test up and down the street and patches all over the place lol So like you say , pays off to communicate. Too bad they promoted him to regional , haven't seem him since. And i learned a lot from him.

Yep, totaly agree with you, been communicating with a lot of people, regional, directors and many more. They got it in the end and I guess the speed increase was a gesture of good faith.

Pretty happy now with the service, can't wait for it to go bad again and maybe get higher speeds! LMAO. Serious, it worked out pretty good.

Just a recap on this, I am back on the 6Mbps Plan, been on it now for many months and its working out great. Turns out it was faulty routes that was slowing me down, but Frontier have been out as per there promise and the have been installing optics to cope with the capacity problems.

They have a huge thumbs up from me seeing as they are cleaning up the mess Verizon left them in.
