PING TIMES HELP!

Hew Jass

Recommended Posts

Ping mostly measures distance right?  I am in western USA and my worst pings are to hosts in Europe or the UK, such as 500ms.  Testmy.net is in Dallas TX and I have a ping of 52ms.

Two questions, what kind of internet? and where you live?

yes, ping time is mainly dependent on distance, but bad routers etc can also increase ping time

your ping doesnt necessarily go straight to the server, it could go halfway across the country first, but that normally isnt the case

Comcast.net is high speed...so

less then 100ms "Great, typical of a high-speed cable or DSL connection."

100-200ms "Good, common for cable and DSL connections."

200-400ms "Fair, usually seen with dialup connections or faraway sites."

This is a ping test, but you need activeX

64 (42 after a few good tries)

118 (111 after a few tries)

221 (got 250+ usualiy)

59

86

258

Maybe a bit better than yours but trust me I get less than 60% of what I'm supposed to be getting on most tests here.. And for some reason my tests go down ALOT after each try..

Your speed tests continue to fall here?

Hew Jass's Download Average = 2298 Kbps

comcast.net Download Average = 3172 Kbps

When I do a speed test I have less then 28 Processes going, I make sure that no packets are moving prior to the test, and my cpu usage is under 2%.
