very nice dl speed for being wireless. how far is your computer from the router?

I'm about 24 feet from it. I'm using a WRT54GS V2 Linksys with the Alchemy third party firmware that allowed me to crank the power up, I run at 80 mw, which requires no added cooling and I have the Linksys hy-gain antennas. The laptop is a HP running an AMD 64 3200+ and the laptop has a built in Broadcom wireless device. I have a Linksys wireless card, but surprisingly, to me anyway, via experimenting I have found the built-in to give me better results.

Speaking of results, lately they have been even better.

Same ole 766 for upload.

I had to reboot my tower, so I also cycled the router and modem. Much to my surprise the laptop could not get a wireless connect. Being a tad out of it (I have a cold and have had very little sleep) I forgot I had entered IP, Gateway and DNS numbers on my wireless set-up on the laptop. With the reboot of the modem I eventually discovered the DNS servers had changed. I set everything back to Auto and got a wireless connect, but the speed was slowish, 3 to 4 meg. I turned off the obtain whatever automatically and entered in the new numbers and my speed came back up. Lookin' even a tad faster.

I did have Comcast few years back. Later I moved to Disk, due to foreign programs. Now, when I have planned to move back to comcast, based on good my experience with them, I am STUNNED to notice the decline in the service level in 1 year. The superior level of service I had thru COMCAST years back is no longer available. They SUCK right from the appointment stage. My friends and co-workers (47 people, I studied) share the similar experience. few of them (13 people) have re-scheduled the installation appointments due to bad trained technitians. On the contrary, the speed SUCKS too. Comcast, in some regions is taking the full advantage of monopoly. Please consider your decision twice before switching. Thank you.

I have the 8Mb/768kb Plan. And i'm paying $53/month. I'm not using cablenut or anyhting to speed up my d.l. I guess im just lucky    I use Zonealarm and Avg for proctection (both free version). I leave them on while doing test.
