That's basicly just a backbone upgrade. It will make the Comcast network as a whole faster.

The most apparent thing you will notice when you are switched are the additional hops. These hops have little, to no effect on speeds or latency.

Seeing as though Verzon FIOS is spreading well, I wouldn't be supprised if they do decide to do another speed upgrade in the nex year.

Yeah, well thats their plan i believe. i read somewhere else i think in a post that was made here in one of the forums that by september or nearing the end that the members that already run the 6000/768 connection will be getting upgraded for no charge to 14megs/4megs. and as the obvious stands doing this as a big push on verizon and as to the complaints they've recieved to a big percentage of members who feel they've been denied their full 6meg/768 line.. i being one of them. i don't like waiting till 12-1am to actually enjoy my $65 connection.. I'm tempted just a bit to switch over to verizons

FiOS. but i also want to stick around to see how this upgrade goes for comcast and also for me...

Welcome to the site, rdjune :hello:

It's a cached result. Are you using any web accelarators?

I have an accelerator from BIT/TORRENTSPY. I don't use web accelerators, I think they do more harm then good. I think you are right, I re-tested my d/l speed and this is what I got. I mentioned that I thought it was high.

Welcome to The Forum rdjune :hello:

What is your advertise speeds?

My what? If you're asking what I think, my d/l speed can be very low. But that shouldn't surprise any of us, right? Now for an example of what I think is "good speed".  I d/l torrent files from time-to-time. If I manage to "track", or d/l a file that is being used and shared by, say, 250 users or so, my d'l speed has been as high as 850 kb/s. This is true d/l speed. Given my past experience in this, 300-500 kb/s is more then acceptable.

Be pal, explain just what "uncapped his modem" means? How do you do this? What does it do? More importantly, does it do any good?

Welcome to the forums, rdjune :hello:

Uncapping a modem is tampering with your ISP's config file. When you connect your modem to the network, it downloads a special config file to the modem. The file contains IP address info, your authorized (paying for) speeds and a few other settings. Uncapping lets you use your modem at up to it's maximum speeds. It does not do any good, because it is illegal, and people who do it do eventually get caught.

Alright, a man on the ball here, thanks for the info. I will NOT be uncapping my modem anytime soon. D/Lng protected files is thrilling enough!!!
