Serious Problems With Speed

Recommended Posts

The other day I posted that I was having a major problem with upload speeds, see Sudden Unexplained Slowdown. However, the problem gets even weirder since I tested the other machine here in the office.

Both machines are running through a D-Link DI-604 router to and RCA DCM305R Digital Broadband Cable Modem. The strange part (at least to me) is the large disparity in upload and download speeds between the two machines. The stats for both machines are pasted below.

I could really use some help figuring out how to fix this.

well i am having trouble with my download speeds. it dropped about 3Mb  :angry5: :angry5:

1. Are both yours computer connected wired or wireless?

2. When you do a speed test, make sure no1 is using other computer, and dont use programs that uses your upload and download. (ex. no download music, and no sharing music it uses your upload)

3. What package do you have? 6000/768 or 4000/384

What are the specs for the two PC's? obviously there's going to be a difference in performance if they are one new and one outdated, but what is weird is that one gets greater download, and one greater upload.  Have you checked for spyware?

Hmmmm, curious. Maybe you've tried these steps already, but it's worth a shot

Have you?

Done a hard reset on every piece of gear by powering them down and then back up in order? (modem, router, pc)

tried applying identical cablenut settings to each PC?

Also, you could

Press CTL,ALT,DEL and go to the network monitor when there should be no internet activity to see if your network bandwidth is being used by a background program (spyware maybe)

try bypassing the router completely by connecting directly to the modem.

Do a complete release/renew of all your connections by clicking repair in the network status dialog box

Reset all cablenut settings to windows default

hit the pc a couple times with a baseball bat

freak out

shoot the router

Good Luck!

Thanks to everyone so far for all the suggestions to try and correct my problem.

Here is an update on what I have done so far.

I have done a hard reset on every piece of gear by powering them down and then back up in order? (modem, router, pc).

Scanned for viruses using my McAfee- Results= no viruses found.

Found KRC Anti-Spyware Tutorial http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#adaware and did everything that was suggested right down to "Things to do before running HijackThis". Also installed SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard.

I've run the TCP-Optimizer and reset all the Cablenut setting.

All of this and so far no major changes. Below are my latest speed tests.

I guess the next thing is to re-install the OS unless anyone has any better suggestions.
