Recommended Posts

Ever since Comcast announced the new 4 meg speed upgrade, Me and my entire neighborhhood have gotten slower speeds!!! From midnight till about dawn the speeds sometimes hit the advertised 4meg. After that, during the day the speeds steadily decline. From 6pm until midnight we get anywhere from 192kbs to 1 meg!!!! Then the cycle repeats itself daily!! I have had every tech and maint. crew out here and to my neighbor's many times. They say "yeah there is a problem" and then the case gets closed---What problem??? grrrrrrrrrrr! Cant get anyone to do anything here in Bensalem, Pa. Help! :angry5:

well in that case i suggest u both to do follow certain steps to optimize ur full speeds

1) install a firewall if u dont have one and than block applications that u dont kno.

2) shut down computer and unplug the modem completely

3) plug in the modem connections again and than start the comp.

4) now when u get the desktop downlaod cablenut from http://www.cablenut.com/

5) tweak settings from here https://testmy.net/topic-4376

finally restart and u will see the speed variation in ur internet. trust me if u follow this u will see change.

ok lets jus say like u got some connection problem in ur area but i think that it wont take long for u to get the best speed.

lets see wot Comcast says

"Speed comparisons are for downloads only and are compared to 768Kbps DSL and 56Kbps dial-up. Maximum download speed of 4Mbps (or 6 Mbps) and upload speeds of 384Kbps (or 768Kbps) depending on the product that is selected. Increased speeds not yet available in all areas. Actual speeds may vary and are not guaranteed. Many factors affect download speed."

so well it might have been that they dont cover ur area for 4Mbps or 6Mbps actual speed and as u said they jus started in ur area they will speed u up soon, hope so

I'll tell you exactly why the speeds are slow for this is the exact same problem I am having.

Too many god damn people are using comcast in your area.  Let me give you an example:

In my area, there are approx. 3000 HSI customers on the Tap/Node.  97% of them were using the internet at the time.  Now thats a crapload of people, however,

the representative on the phone said its not overloaded.  When the techinician came out to my house, he checked the line, said I had a weak signal, so he installed an amplifier.  He also said that they would be splitting up the node and that comcast is oversubscribing people like crazy.  This is why comcast is a bunch of morons.  They assume that everyone who uses HSI won't be consuming all of the bandwith, when indeed, a whole lot of them ARE using plenty of bandwith.  This is the only reason why your speeds are crap from 6pm to midnight, same as mine.  As long as you play your online games at 2am in the morning, you're set.  What I recommend is calling your local payment center and then inquiring about a Node split.  Complain to the board of directors or something of that sort.  I'm in the process of doing this now.

Pitbull481, I've been there before. I called Comcast and asked about the speed decrease. I only called because the speeds were too consistant. The tech checked my account info and came to find out that somehow my enhanced package had been switched to the basic one. The rep switched me right back and everything was cool again.

Sometimes, in your case, simple things like that could be the problem. If not, back to plan A.  :D

   Comcast HAS BIG PROBLEMS!!!!

Ever since I restarted my modem for the "speed upgrade" my connection has been crappy. One friend about 20 min away says his cable modem just signes him off and he has to restart it. Another one in Alpharetta Ga says his connection sucks also and is slow as grandma. Tonight I did a speed test. At 12 AM I was running about 600 down. WTF they advertised atleast 4 So I called tech support. Ohh restart your modem. I told her I do that every f***ing night and I am tired of doing it. So she said I will ping your modem it will speed it up.??? yea right. So when her great pinging idea didnt work she gave me 2nd level tech suppport. OH belive me I will be calling them tomorrow. eather they need to get my shit fixed Or I will get the d@#$ dish and DSL...

well you are not alone, let me break it down for you right here, this is the true explanation:

Ever since comcast began to add their digital phone service, their lines have been overloaded. Due to FCC regulations, comcast can no longer rent fiber lines from other companies because they must be in control of all their equipment. Comcast is trying to run 6 or 7 county's internet on 1(one) fiber line into Los Angeles. If you haven't noticed yet, comcast recently bought out Adelphia. Why you ask? To gain access to their fiber lines so that comcast doesn't have to install their own. They did this to remove the pressure at all the bottlenecked points in the lines. One other thing. Verizon has "accidentally" been cutting comcasts lines while they try to install their new Fios service which offers 15mbps for $45 a month. That is another possible reason why your service might be to crap.

I am going on my 12th technician to come out and test my lines. How lovely! I think I'm going to get one of those nice modems with a router and wireless internet built into them. They are quite spiffy. Post this on any other forums you visit to help everyone comprehend what is happening to comcast and our internet. Thank you for reading and goodnight.
