Hey guys, as the topic says, I'm getting horrible speeds through SBC DSL.  I read the sticky and followed every step but the speed never changed.  Can you guys help?

I believe I have the 1.5mbps package from SBC.  (anyone have a link where I can see EXACTLY what I'm signed up for through SBC? ex.1500/256)

and here is all the data retrieved from following Van Burens sticky:

http://ttester.broadbandreports.com/tweak/block:11b1c00?service=dsl&speed=1500&os=winXP&via=normal

is this anything new for you?  because just in the last two weeks, my connection with SBC went from ~1.0 - 1.2 Mbps down to 600 or less.

I don't get it.  I got SBC to send me a new modem, to see if that helps, (the current one is at least 5 years old.)

This all came up when I tried to upgrade to the 3.0/700 pro package, then it seems like the next day after requesting the upgrade my connection went to crap.

hey again rad_thundercat :)

connect your router again and follow these steps, i assume you have cablenut installed

download this attached file "MSS1492.zip" and unzip it

dubbleclick on the 1500 384 file and click save to registry

now reboot your pc

test speed

you can also test that 1000 384 file, just load it like the other one

you must click save to registry and reboot your pc after each time you make a change

I cant get tweaktest to run right now; it just sits there "loading" (for over 15min).  I tried Firefox and IE

A few more notes about my setup:  When I first ran the custom settings and rebooted the computer, nothing seemed to change.  Only when I reset both computers on the network and reset the modem & router (turn off for 30 sec) did the connection change from 317-318.  Do I have to edit the registrys of both computers on the network via Cablenut?

Also, If my computer is connected directly to the modem, I have to use the Network Connections window to connect to SBC in order to ge online.  When I am connected to the router, I connect  to the net automatically even though the Network Conncetions window says SBC is disconnected

those cablenut files is made for using a router with PPPoE, if you bypass router, you should use another file

cos the MTU is not the same

I suggest you to restore all settings to windows default and we work from that

open cablenut, click delete cablenut tweaks and click save to registry

now download Dr.Tcp http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe and make sure all settings looks like this, if you see any value, use delete key and erase it, now click save and reboot your PC

make a new tweaktest and speedtest

without router, and with router installed

ok, I deleted the Cablenut settings and saved the registry, ran DrTCP - settings were just like the picture, except, under 'Adapter Settings' when I change it to "Intel PRO/1000 CT Network Connection" (motherboard NIC) from "1394 Net Adapter", it will change back to '1394 Net Adapter' when I close out and open DrTCP again.  Is that supposed to happen?

rebooted and...

try powercycle your modem, leave it off for 30 full seconds, also try changing the LAN cable between your PC/router and router/modem

also make a pathping

start-run-cmd

type pathping testmy.net and hit enter

now wait for several minutes for it to complete, when its done, rightclick choose all and hit enter

now paste all in a new post

Guest rad_thundercat

find the manual for your router and set your MTU to 1492 (PPPoE)

in Dr.Tcp it wont matter what NIC you see in that scroll list, just scroll so you see all and make sure no value is set in MTU for each adapter

most likely you have a problem in the modem aswell

cos your ping peak out, even tho you connected direct to modem

I found the MTU settings and used 1492..  It says that the default packet size for a PPOE connection is 1492 anyway.

[edit]: and I ran a download test and still got 318kbps

So this means I need to have SBC send me a new modem?

thanks again.
