extremly slow cable????? help

i am getting 30 kb/s download speed with my comcast cable! (according to the test on this site) we have a 802.11 b router which is what i am useing in the test. i am prutty sure it is not a software problem but i am going to find out by connecting my laptop directly into the cable modem. is it a possibility that becuase we have so many splitters on our cable for all the different tvs in our house that the signal could be dimmed down by that?

Connection is:: 3121 Kbps about 3.1 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB)

Download Speed is:: 381 KB/sec

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Bottom Line:: 56 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 2.69 second(s)

ok tv splitters dont really effect the speed of the cable internet access... I have a few on the line that I am currently on and doesnt make a difference... Being on a wireless router means that you are going to get some interference from microwaves, telephones, and other wireless networks... I have 4 neighbors that are currently running broadband internet access on 802.11b/g routers... The thing to do in this situtation is to change the channel from the default of 6.... This will eliminate any interference from other routers in the area cause most people dont do anything to the routers to begin with other than plug them in. Also you might want to get some protection on that router... At least use 128bit WEP on your network so that some dude who is driving past your house doesnt steal your internet and look or do something illegal... That would be bad!! I am running about 3200kbs which is about 1000kbs slower than if I have my laptop on the ethernet connection... Now that does change depending on where I am in the house...

If you dont know by now there is a thing called spyware... I hate this s*** and the people who develop it should be put in prison with a dude named bubba who makes people his B*****es when they drop the soap... :lol: There is a great program out there called Spy sweeper. It is made by webroot and is free to download... It also comes with one update before you have to buy the product... http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php Also make sure that you are running an anti virus program... I can not tell you how many people I have talked/helped fix their connection because some dumbass virus is using/slowing down their connection to the point that they are complaining :roll: Try those steps and see what happens... There shouldnt be that big of a difference in the wireless/wired speeds.

well i am not sure what the heck was up last time when it was going at 30 kb/s but here is the test on my computer on the wireless network:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 2563 Kbps about 2.6 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB)

Download Speed is:: 313 KB/sec

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Bottom Line:: 46 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 3.27 second(s)

is it possible that i was just on at a bad time last time? i mean i know that the more users in a neighborhood that are on at the same time, the slower the internet is with cable internet but i didnt think it was that much slower!

I know all about spy sweeper and use it often along with spybot, avg anti virus, spyware blaster and hyjack this, and seygate personal firewall. and i have encryption on but i only have it set to 64. should i change it to 128?

The system shouldnt do that if so many people are on at one time... I mean you might see like a 200 to 500 kbs drop under heavy volume but no from 3000 to 30kbs... That is retarted... Seems like you are running fine... I would still scan your computer for spyware... It is also highly unlikely that it was on the server side.... CA3LE has this site on one hell of a backbone and some really kick ass hardware to keep this site pumping, ALL HAIL CA3LE 8)... Just keep testing and if you run into more problems just post again!

AKA Chello. Sometimes it really slows down that much.

Your speed doesn't look all that bad now... expect a speed drop with the wireless... even if it's 802.11G ~~~ my connection drops to 2900 Kbps or 354 KB/s ~~ I normally run at about 3900 Kbps or 476 KB/s that's about 25% loss going to wireless from 100 Mbps network ---- so never expect your wireless to run to par with your hardwired connection even if you have the cleanest signal ever thought of ;-)

This kinda proves my point:

I was talking download... I know all about your upload... :lol:

Would you believe it if I said that I scored a 331 kbps upload speed once?

And take a look at the download test and then at this one:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 1924 Kbps about 1.9 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB)

Download Speed is:: 235 KB/sec

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Bottom Line:: 34 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 4.36 second(s)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=BWY2JGRUS

I normally test at about 2200 - 2300 here, but it's already way past the morning to get normal speeds.

ok it is all effed up now. before i changed the channel and for a while everything was good. not my tests, only on the wireless computers are slow again. it is not the channel becuase i changed that a bunch of times. i turned off the wired computer and the other wireless computer and now on this computer (primary un-wred computer) everyhting is back to normal again. the thing that gets me is that I WAS NOT DOWNLOADING ANYTHING ON THE WIRED COMPUTER OR THE OTHER WIRELESS ONE. I had aim open but that was it. well anyway, i guess i can jsut turn off all the other computers when it is 2 in the morning and want to play Unreal Tournement 2004 online.....
