I would power cycle the modem.. That would be unplug it for 10 min and then plug it back in.. I am almost positive that you should be getting the 4mbps upgrade no questions asked... You might have not got the new update for the modem..

I did RWIN tweak , run ccleaner and uninstalled Zone Alarm and voila! speed was back to 3.6mbps. I installed Zone Alarm back and speed went down to 1.8mbps. Now I know who the culprit is. My question is do I have to live with this compromise or are they any other FREE firewall that I can use that won't have the same effect on speed?? If there are no free firewall then which one should I buy? I am connected thorough Linksys router (BTW,doesn't linksys routers have built-in firewall?).

NAT is not a true firewall... all that it does is block incomming requests that the router doesnt know where to route.. so it will block some popups.. Hackers can still get though it.. as soon as you forward a port.. NAT is no longer a "firewall"

I also have Comcast and noticed that some of the Mirrors closer to where I live seem to be consistently faster.  You might want to try one of testmy.net's mirror servers and test your connection there.  The one I tested was  http://www.testmy.net/o-mirrorBAF .  My results are below:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 4121 Kbps about 4.1 Mbps (tested with 3151 kB)

Download Speed is:: 503 kB/s

Tested From:: http://www.bafserv.com

Test Time::

Bottom Line:: 74X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.04 sec

Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 20.04 % faster than the average for host (comcast.net)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-LN620PGUS
