Off topic, sorry, but Tristan9669; where did you find your Sig?

I noticed it's from the first episode of the new season, and you had it long before that episode aired.

yeah, I made this sig with the LEAKED family guy that came out a week before the air date on may 1st

I see, that's cool.

I had wondered which episode that was from until I saw it 2 weeks ago.

I never knew that it was leaked.

Well anyways, back on subject:

Hope you get your speed problem corrected soon.

BTW; have you checked your modem levels?

The node is where the fiber optics run to, and there the light is converted back to RF and sent out to the homes via coaxial cable.

usually there are around 500-1500 homes passed (not necessarily active) per node.

Can you get into the diagnostics of your Terayon modem?

I am curious if they are running 64QAM or 256QAM downstream.

Some modems will tell you that.

Try these steps below and see if it might tell you the 'modulation type':

Q: How can I view my cable modem's signal quality or error logs? (#7363)

A: Most cable modems have built-in diagnostics for getting information on the quality of the cable signal coming to the modem. The procedures for accessing these diagnostics vary depending on the brand and model of cable modem you have. If the information below won't get you to these diagnostics, please contact the manufacturer of your cable modem (be it leased or owned). A few modems may have this information in the manual that they came with. For some cable modems, you can access these diagnostics even if the cable modem hasn't obtained block sync.

      1) Try this first: Open your browser and navigate to http://192.168.100.1/'>http://192.168.100.1/ (or try holding SHIFT key and clicking the links). This is the most common method of accessing the diagnostics. You may need to navigate a bit from here to access the pertinent information.

o 1.A) If you have an Ambit cable modem, you may be prompted for a username and password. The username is root and the password is also root. Some Ambit cable modems have the information you are after on more than one web page.

o 1.B) If you have a RCA cable modem, you may need to navigate to http://192.168.100.1/'>http://192.168.100.1/moreInfo.html to view the diagnostics.

o 1.C) If you have a 3Com cable modem, you may need to navigate to http://3comcablemodem.com or http://49.112.50.65 to view the diagnostics. A note about 3Com cable modems: they are notorious for reporting erroneous information, and sifting out the values you will be interested in will be difficult at best. Also, some 3Com modems will prompt you for a username and password, which are User and Password respectively.

o 1.D) If you have a Terayon TJ615, navigate to http://192.168.100.1 and type icu4at! at the password prompt (or copy paste it from here). To see the signals go to http://192.168.100.1/'>http://192.168.100.1/modemRfPage. If you cannot access the status page at http://192.168.100.1 (main menu) reboot the cable modem, wait for it to synch and then try. The reboot may be necessary due to the fact that the status page was an afterthought

o 1.E) If you have a Terayon TJ715, navigate to http://192.168.100.1/'>http://192.168.100.1/diagnostics_page.html to view the diagnostics. The password is icu4at!

o 1.F) If you have a Scientific Atlanta modem, go to http://192.168.100.1. The username is admin and the password is w2402

o 1.G) If you have a SMC8013 gateway, (Business customers) go to http://10.1.10.1. The username is cusadmin and the password is highspeed

It doesn't look Terayon gives that info.

Those are just the 2 main modulation types used in Docsis right now.

64QAM data rate is about 30Mbps max, and 256QAM is about 43Mbps max.

That is the total data rate for every modem on that particular card in the headend.

But, you levels look very good:

-1.9dB Receive, and a 48.5dB transmit.

SNR 35dB.

Couldn't ask for better levels at the modem.

  • 2 weeks later...

As a result of my email to Comcast support last night.

We are sorry to hear of the difficulties you have been experiencing with speed issues.

We are currently experiencing an outage in your area concerning Internet connection and latency on your area. We apologize for this inconvenience and are working toward a resolution as quickly as we can. We hope to have the service restored shortly but do not have an estimate as to when this will occur. We thank you for your patience as we investigate the source of the outage and make the necessary repairs to the network.

We apologize for any inconvenience or misunderstanding.

Thank you for choosing Comcast.

Sincerely,

Melinda

Comcast Online Customer Support

I was able to tracert worldofwarcraft.com without nasty latency this morning.  Will see if it is still fixed tonight under peak traffic.

It only seems to be certain ip addresses.  I was on the phone with Comcast support talking to one of their upper level techs and he was telling me they are performing "upgrades" to their network for the next 30 days or so.  Durring this time they are routing traffic from bad network to bad network while they upgrade putting extra load on old equipment while they do it.

I get great pings and download speeds as long as the ip address I connect to isn't routed through the over-worked router.

Sad thing is I get over 1k ms pings from the Temecula area to Irvine where the WoW servers are, less than 60mi away.

Anyhow, look for this type of poor service for the next 30 days while they "upgrade".
