use a bigger test file. a 1mb file is too small.

The topic is 'what's the fastest uve gone'

I guess you don't need know that I get WAY better at "2-Wire". How'd ya llike 72.73MB and or 'Infinitely' fast speeds, also at 2-wire...no, not cached...no, I doubt if they're 'next door' as the Scottsdale mirror has to be..but, 'accuracy' isn't in question...other variables are. Go figure, I figure.

http://www.2wire.com/bandwidth/meter.php?

TMN records ALL my 'mirror' and Server 1 & 2 results...since both getting the 12/1 on Dec. 3rd / Cox and various hardware and our usual set of 'tweaks' here...I'm seeing those caps. NP there.

Dlewis? I *cannot* dnld any file from the 'scottsdale mirror' site you've set up...except for the 1MB one...due to some site calculations (I guess) as to my appearant speed. I've shown tommie (and the gang' the message I get when I DO attempt to dnld any more than 1mb. And they're still incredulous. Hahaha (maybe)

But thanks...if you question any thing..I'll gladly post what I get if I click more'n 1MB. I don't have copy handy..it's in the forum somewhere..and I'm not itchin' to see more congrats for what people think is some phoney results. That's kind of a no-brainer for me, eh? :uglystupid2:

Living in Scottsdale, as I do. I'm not going to try and post more on that unless dlewis23 requests it, ok?  Thanks for the site! :smitten:[geek]

And thank you to all:'

Buntz, h2haxor, tommie & last but not at all least dlewis23,

Who commented:"nice speed"

Tommie and one other I've addressed directly to mention my bad luck with connection in Cox for 1 3/4 years almost, at my particular location...Cox certainly knows that...hahaha! I'll get to the suggested speed test later T. man

I had to drop back to my little dial-up off and on over the last 2 days...cable good almost all day today. Knock plywood %%- <shamrock

P.S. dlewis23, I'm *not* complaining re: upload doesn't work for me at dlewis23-2, but facts are the upload link won't work for me...I get forwarded to a page that's not the usual 'cannot find'' IE msg. Again, be glad to try an upload there, but...she's a no woik fo' me yet on that score :idiot2:[nerd]:

Howdy again, I get this below with 20MB at 7:40-ish on a Tues. eve in Scts.AZ:

7:39 PM 1/2/2007

From:

http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/d_load.php?&st=st&tt=1&ta=1&top=000&out_src=20MB'>http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/d_load.php?&st=st&tt=1&ta=1&top=000&out_src=20MB

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Download Connection is:: 9712 Kbps about 9.7 Mbps (tested with 20972 kB)

Download Speed is:: 1186 kB/s

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net

Test Time:: 2007/01/02 - 7:37pm

Bottom Line:: 169X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 0.86 sec

Tested from a 20972 kB file and took 17.69 seconds to complete

Download Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 91.44 % faster than the average for host (cox.net)

D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9YRA2OLQ8

If I had to 'guess' as to why it's so low compared to TMN Server 1 or 2? It wouldn't be the 'accuracy of the test, and I'm not complaing 'cause I'm hip to the trip, but, doesn't reflect my usual Cox tier of 12/1, as both  main TMN servers do, with 12,260 dnlds.

What more can I say/do to dispell the myth that girls can't be 'fast' given the right circumstances :evil:

This 20MB site ust be in Paduka :2funny:

I'm assuming (not ever a good idea :idea:) that you're referring to my 'connection woes' not my speed inconsistancies on the high-end of anyone.

So, ya tommie...Since Cox service reps on the phone vary so much as to proficiency, meaning the only typical trouble-shooting and suggestions made are well-meaning, but similar to these:

"Have you power cycled your modem?

"We can schedule and send a service call.

"Well you could Upgrade"

(After I *did* up my tier to 12/1 on Dec. 3rd and bought the in-house line coverage too, naturally I was concerned about not reaching my tier...and my dnld didn't budge...that was first and formost. You know what I did to fix that...ethernet NIC. Tardy about that too...but I WAS gettin my Cox 6/512 on usb. When Cox 'gave us' "Crazy Fast" of up to 7M...well, it didn't budge but I wasn't overly concerned....that's the upshot on 'speed'...which you probably weren't asking about.)

Cox found time for me finally, re:'disconnection woes' in the shape of a Level II tech truck-roll many months back...he found ONLY tiny things to fix...(I wish he'd 'questioned' the wisdom of my usb vs NIC at that time.) But he was good about some little things like fitting replacements in this old complex...etc. Nothing major changed the conn. prob. for long. I moved my office got the NIC on my own hook, as you know...that seemed to solve disconnects for awhile...my calls to them ere sometimes like this: "Looks good from here...and "You're getting your caps in speed..maybe over them" (one of those times...after the upgrade that is) I didn't even have the modem plugged in!)  I guess 'perfect' can also be 'flakey' and I should know from personal experience :icon_jokercolor: As I said in back earlier somewhere...It's been good today...all day, 'knock plywood'

I'm not going to agonize when I can just pull the plug and fire up my dial-up if cable doesn't behave. Nyah onya cable Inter-Not :wink:

:undecided:

My :haha:'belt and suspenders' type-explanations are my forte. You'll soon tire of asking me questions hahahaha :roll:

Buntz...I'm just the new-proud-owner-of-extra-money-to-pay-each-month for my 12/1 Cox Premier. I've not anything to complain of *tonight*...re connection dropping every 3 minutes... as happens too often..I am however not getting 'typical' results at either of the related '20MB's avail' download sites...from *here*. If I jet to say...next door to 'em? In my Tele-transporter (which is also slightly broken)...I'd blow their doors off :D...but wouldn't we all!!! :wink:

Gee tommie, thanks for asking then: :wink:

Tell ya what my lengthy discourses are to me and hopefully to others:

Helping folks realize they're not alone in the boat...and as such, we trade 'secrets' of what works and what doesn't...but it's so subjective. I'm no better no worse then the average nerd at this stuff. But I have a TON of trial and error experience to share. Verbosity vs brevity. My answers to any questions are meant to cover the bases (all) inform rather than puzzle..and generally..have a good time [geek]

Tops me tommie...110mph on the highway back to Chicago from down-state...in guess what? An automobile that others would have been ashamed to be seen in. :wink: Rust-bucket white Buick LaSalle 4 door sedan BOMB of a car!!! White with 'rust' lace on the bottom edges...still be driving it if the brakes hadn't made me sell it. But then, I'd paid $100 a year earlier...so I could afford to take $50 for it :laugh: I'f I'm lyin' I'm dyin'... :haha:

mogramjo..just curious..what does speed like that test out on

Cnet..it always been 'the standard' test site for me..

it will test dial-up up to T-3..

http://reviews.cnet.com/7004-7254_7-0.html

my Hughes Net tests on Cnet is around 450~510, and TestMyNet shows 1083/160 or so..I am on the 1000/192 plan..

so, I am at least getting what I'm paying for..

I think maybe on Cnet perhaps they average  the upload and download speeds together..and give you an allaround ballpark figure..don't know..kind of new to this stuff..just wondering..

I'm in Scottsdale AZ daytrader, where are you? Makes a HUGE diffence depending where the server(s) are. I can see it requests your 'area code' but that's no guarantee of proximity. I get my 12+/1 'normally' with nothing running to speak of..and not at peak business hours. I don't rely on the highest speeds I can get..it's all 'infrastructure' related anyway. BUT...brb.(__) with 'results' from a site located (?) at the rush hours on the internet all over the country :grin2:
